What‘s your impression on AF- and overall performance of your combination?
Overall I think it's great, very much better than the 90MM I used to use on top of the A7R2.
AF in photo mode is fast and accurate, video mode often loses the target if the small, and the stabilization is not very good.

The 16-50 is optically rather weak. We use the combination of 10-20/4 (the new one) with the 6“ acrylic dome. Hard to distinguish some of the pictures from the A7 IV with WACP-C.
Macro-option is the only downside.
How long is the 6-inch dome extension?

I measured my Nauticam a6700 (N85) at 11.75mm from camera flange to housing flange.
I’ve got a few ports/adapter handy to measure if the desire is there. Now I need to go figure out the optical center of the Zen DP170 (N120 mount), and I will measure the EP of various FL of my Sigma 10-18. Yes it’s all APS-C which is blasphemy to some, but at least the measurements will be available for someone who wants them.
I hope to share the nauticamA6700+SIGMA10-18 part once I have the results, I'm considering other options besides the 18-50+WWL.😀

marelux recently released housing for the A7CII/R, which is cheaper than the nauticam, a bit bigger and heavier. Can anyone share their experience with marelux?

Ok, understood. A6700 is a really good one and also my GAS is already activated…
Looking at the port charts the 10-20 with 180 dome could be an option. (Edit: with 6“ Acrylic Dome you don’t even need any adapter) But the 16-50 is such a crap… I had three of them over the years and each of them was really weak. The new version of the 16-50 doesn’t seem to have improved ( other than the new 10-20).
Is the 16-50 not sharp enough or is it slow to focus? I asked backscatter and the 6700's manual white balance is not as good as the A7CII's and requires the use of a red filter, what bad news. I'm more inclined to go with the A7CII now.

If I understand your question correctly, yes I have mounted the bayonet mount II on the Marelux 32 flat macro port to use with the Sony FE 28-60mm and the WWL-1B. Note in the images that the MX-32 port is shorter than the Nauticam port and the BLUE lens release hits the port when it is pushed down to release the lens. In the photo you will see I shaved a few mm off the blue release to make it work more easily.
Thank you very much, that's what I'm trying to understand.

In my opinion, regarding the size the A6700 is not as suitable as a full-frame camera of the same size as a model from the A7C series. However, this is not due to the body, but to the poor quality of the 16-50 standard lens of the APS-C series. This means that even the WWL or the WACP-C won't help if the lens is poor. As far as full-frame lenses are concerned, the 28-60 is an excellent partner on which at least half of Sony's success under water is based.
If it's going to be a crop sensor (and the A6700 is incredibly good), I'd rather go with dome and Canon 9-15 with Metabones. If the A7CII's 4K60 without crop would be perfect, it's really one of the options I'm considering.
the only advantage of the A6700 is that it has 4K60 uncropped. -

Sagadive.com makes WACP N120 adapters for at least seven different housing brands.
In Marelux world the 32 flat port with 67mm threads works with the Sony FE 28-60mm and WWL-1/1B.
Marelux also has an N100 to Marelux 5 inch 17mm adapter for the same Sony 28-60 and WACP-C.
Marelux also has a Nauticam N120 to Marelux 5 inch 20mm extension which works with WACP-1/2 in the N120 mount. It also works with ports like those from Nauticam and Zen. I use mine with the 12 inch Matty Smith dome for split shots. The Sony FE 28-60 works with the WACP-1 direct mounted with no additional extension. In the photo of WACP-1 mounted on the Marelux housing I am using the 20mm NA to MX adapter and a 30mm Marelux extension while testing a Tamron zoom with WACP-1.
Marelux also has the Aquista line of wet wide lenses coming soon and you can also get to 130 degrees with the excellent Laowa 10mm F/2.8 rectilinear auto focus lens for Sony FE and Nikon Z.
Silver housing is WWL-1, Top view short adapter is the WACP-C and WACP-1 with two extensions.
Have you tried installing the marelux port on the M67 to Bayonet Mount Converter II?

I'd say if you're a still photographer wanting to shoot more video, like me, this is a great choice. It's my choice, but I haven't pulled the trigger yet. It shoots oversampled 4k 60p, has good rolling shutter specs. There's a 1.3x crop with stabilization, and something like 1.5x crop if you shoot 4k 120p, which is not great. All of this means that it's got the specs we want, and Sony's autofocusing is top of the class. Dunno about the setting white balance, but my guess is that it's doable.
Yes, I do hope that the new device can do both video and photo.
Is 1650+WWL the ideal choice? The size is small for traveling.

Is the A6700's manual white balance as good as the A7IV,A1? Over 30 feet still ambient light white balance.
Is the A6700 a good choice as an underwater video camera?

Since Chip and I are friends we discussed this issue at length and he will be borrowing my Sony FE 50mm to compare to the Zeiss 50mm he ordered.
Other FF macro lenses exist like the shorter Sigma 70mm macro which I have also used and found to be not fit for U/W use.
Regarding Olympus, the 30mm is the obvious choice for BW because the Pana 45 macro is way to slow and the 60mm is a bit long at a 120mm equivalent.
Regarding image circle perhaps Chip will have some idea when he tests the Zeiss.
All Sony FF U/W shooters would I am sure like to see more modern macro options including a super fast 50/60 and a new 90/100 that goes beyond 1:1. I am not holding my breath, it seems Sony would rather make yet another 50mm that is an F/1 or F/ 0.1 rather than lenses that people will buy. After ten years Sony still does not offer an AF fisheye or fisheye zoom. These are lenses they would sell in much larger numbers than another 50mm F/1.2.
May I ask why the sigma 70mm macro lens is not suitable for underwater use?

The N85 ID varies. The smallest I found was the 36125 dome, which was 69.5mm. I bored it out by 0.5 to accept the Samyang 12mm.
Other bits are up to 73mm and perhaps even a little more.
It's try it and see, or ask someone who has what you are curious about to measure for you.
N85 is too narrow, hopefully in the future nauticam will cancel this line and replace them all with at least N100.

Hi Marc
There is another brand within the apsc spectrum, which has not been mentioned, and perhaps may be an option to consider, and that is Fujifilm.
Unlike Sony, whose best lenses are made for the full frame system, Fujifilm makes its lenses specifically for aps-c (and they are very, very good) which implies smaller size and cost than its full frame counterparts.
At 40 mp, the X-t5 and X-h2 are excellent mirrorless cameras, comparable in construction, sealing, technology and reliability to their full frame counterparts. As for optics suitable for underwater photography, there are quite a few options:
Macro:
Fujinon 80mm macro (120 FF) that is a fantastic lens, fast and accurate, that produces great image quality (I own and love this lens)
Fujinon 30mm macro (45 FF) hope I will test this lens in a few weeks
Zeiss 50mm macro (75 FF)Rectilinear Wide Angle
Fujinon 8-16mm (dome port)
Fujinon 10-24mm (dome port)There are also a lot of native lenses that combine with the complete range of Nauticam wet lenses, just take a look at Nauticam's N100 Fujifilm port chart and you will see many options.
The only native lens not available from Fujifilm is a fisheye, but with the Viltrox adapter you can easily adapt the Canon mount Tokina 10-17.
When considering Fujifilm as an option, there are two issues to keep in mind.
Firstly, being less popular than other brands, the second-hand market (housings) is more limited.
On the other hand, there are few housing brands for Fujifilm. Nauticam, Ikelite, Seafrogs, as far as I know, which can be a little limiting.
But if you look closely, Nauticam has been betting on Fujifilm for a long time, having made housings for its flagship cameras, both the X-t and X-h series and for their full-format older sisters, the Gfx. I guess this gives a little more confidence. As for the budget, $5000 is insufficient if you want to buy new, so you would have to search the second-hand market.
X-t3 and X-t4 are excellent options, with "only" 26Mp, and tons of technology and reliability, and with a large second-hand market.I understand that Fujifilm is a somewhat risky option, but in my point of view better than Sony, which has long ago stopped making efforts to manufacture quality lenses for its APSC cameras.
Lots of options to think about, I guess, and here's one more.
All the best. You mentioned that using a Viltrox adapter you can use tokina 10-17 in Fuji cameras.
Do you have any experience with this that you can share?
Is both photo and video focusing available?
How long extension ring is needed to use this lens in XT3 nauticam housing.
I am considering this option . -

In theory it should work just as well as the Tokina 10-17 on any other APS-C body, so same zoom range and image quality. The only variable that is unique to the Fuji- Tokina 10-17 combination is how well the adapter plays with with the Fuji cameras. You could search around to see how the AF works with various adapters on land based applications. Metabones publishes known limitations for their adapters. https://www.metabones.com/products/details/MB_EF-X-BT1
I have nauticam N100-N120 adapter ring 55mm. 140MM glass dome.
I would like to print a zoom ring to try and use this configuration.
This extension length is maybe 5mm more, does it usually affect the IQ? -
Fuji camera+ fringer adapter+tokina 10-17,This should be a very niche choice.
Has anyone tried this configuration?
How well does this configuration work if you have tried it?

The 15-45mm has some quirks, but overall its quite capable for a "cheap" kit lens. I still believe my camera and any lens/port combo is more capable equipment than I am a photographer, but below are some shots taken using it - some in tropical, some in temperate waters with poorer vis. The ship wreck and the ornate cowfish just below it were both shot at 15mm and cropped. The rest are at varying focal lengths between 18mm and 45mm, usually with cropping for framing. Pretty much everything there shot with 2xZ240 strobes in manual mode, and mostly between f5.6 and f11
With the WWLC it'll focus pretty much right up to the glass, but at 15mm will vignette quite badly, so it's only really usable from about 18mm depending on how important the corners are for the shot.
The two main quirks are
1. On the XT-3 body the lens will retract when you go into playback mode, so there is a delay if you use playback between shooting. It doesn't do this on my X-A7 body, so it's a lens/camera interaction thing. I'm not sure about XT-4 or XT-5. Keeping the post-shot preview on for a longer time mitigates this quirk.
2. The power zoom can be a bit of a pain. In the housing, the zoom ring doesn't spring back to centered, so can be a bit finnicky to get right. In addition, the Nauticam zoom gear actually grabs onto both the zoom ring (which is a jog-dial operation) and the focus ring (which free rotation operation). When moving these both together, sometimes the zoom operation doesn't work so well.
I've got around this by reprogramming the focus ring as a zoom and padding the zoom gear with some tape so it only spins the focus ring and not the zoom. But then the next quirk, is that the focus ring will only work as a zoom on Continuous focus mode, not on M or S. I usually use C with focus tracking, so it's not an issue, but if I do want to use S using AF-L to lock focus, I need to set zoom, then change focus mode from C to S.
Very useful information shared, thanks.
I have an XT3 and now have the opportunity to get the nauticam housing at a relatively low price.I'm considering if it's worth replacing my A7R2 + 8-15, the A7R2 has a very slow video focus, macro focus.
Is the manual white balance on the XT3 video good underwater?
The photos look very sharp and the colors are great.I don't have a 15-45 or wwlc yet, is there a better option?

Let me jump in on this XT-3 discussion! I didn't think anyone else owned an NA-XT3 🙂
I use the 15-45mm with a WWL-C as a "general purpose" lens, which despite its quirks gives some good results. I'll switch to the XF80 f/2.8 for macro. I love some of the detail I can get out of the 80mm, but the DOF can be quite challenging with surge. I've not considered using the 30mm macro, but looking at the range in your pics I might have to think about it 🙂
15-45+WWLC Is it good?I'm thinking about this combo.
