  2. I could see it in bright sunlight in a pool. The brightness is more than adequate. I use diopters in my mask to see almost correctly, I have some astigmatism, which is not corrected for. I have had luck putting reading glasses on the outside of the mask, I have a flip mechanism I 3D printed. After some experimentation a +1 over my normal reading glasses worked.

I tried inside the mask, but it was too much of a pain in *** to clean mask.

    Davide,

My impressions of monitor is that is is well built, and robust. I did do a dip test to work out floatation with my setup.

The monitor functions are straight forward . It does allow for anamorphic viewing with selectable aspect ratios. I also like the fact that the battery is the same as some of the Kraken lights.

When viewing video with peaking on, the info also peaks, somewhat annoying, but maybe there is a work around.

Overall I would say it is a good value and the monitor is bright. I will update once I use in the real underwater world and get a little more experience with this monitor.

Started working on floats. Tested the Housing ,monitor and lights in fresh water. Weighted out perfectly. Have not had time(or access to deep water) to pressure these these floats.

They are designed to be sized as to what flotation is need. I have 63mm end caps(Yellow in photo) and 51mm center section. It would be easy to make them in any length and circumference.

Will get back after pressure test and may move this thread to proven parts if they work.

  5. You can cut hole in the housing and silicone either a thin flat glass or a dome. For your shallow water needs, this should work. For the dome you will need to figure out the diopter, because GoPros do not focus close with out a diopter. Here are some photos of a diy housing I worked on. They is Version one. I got to Version 9 and then found a Telsen dome for cheap that did what I wanted.

I am finishing up on a book,"The Secret History of Sharks" by John Long a paleontologist. It is about the linage of sharks from 465 million years ago to present. A very good and interesting read. I recommend to anyone interested in ocean history.

Did a liveaboard trip to Alor on the Indo Siren shortly before it was consumed by fire and sank. 😪

Alor is known for its healthy reefs and it did not disappoint. However some of the more epic sites were accompanied by poor viz. Currents were also challenging and a few dives were shortened/aborted as a result. Water temps also fluctuated with some especially cold upwellings that required doubling up on wetsuits! If you plan to visit this area, keep these items in mind as it's not a usual Indonesia dive experience. At least to me it wasn't. 🙂

I'm still on the GH5M2 and shot mainly with the Olympus 7-14 and 60mm.

Spectacular video. Your macro shots are some of the best I've seen. Outstanding video.

    David,

I ordered the 5.5 ultra bright and waiting on delivery. I have noticed most manufacturers will set a test depth for warrant and safety reasons. I had a TG-5 which is supposed to be good to 45ft. Took it to 100ft by accident, no water ingress.

Will give update as soon as I can test.

Simon runs a diving business (travel and more) out of HK. He recently posted this video to a whatsapp group - it's rather nice.. in fact.. downright amazing for me.

Thought I'd share it with you folks.

Very lucky to have experienced this moment . It was a treat just to be able to view video  of the encounter.

Tonga is on my loooong bucket list.
