I can confirm that using the 16:9 format, wide and 5,3 k resolution (go pro 11 ) you will have no vignetting
And I am using the inon ultrawide lens, that have a bit wider view, despite both reporting 140 degree.
Here the video with the difference between the lenses:
The vignetting is normal if you use the full sensor 8:7 format
To avoid it, you need to use a different format, the inon lens that is basically identical got the same issue, to reduce it a bit, you could bump up the stabilization setting, as the stabilization crop more the image.
I'll paste here the recommended setting from the inon website, give it a try:
I already saw that, but unlike the ultrawide (that i bough before the AOI was sold) the price difference is just about 50 euro
AOI Lente macro close-up subacquea per action cam gopro e smartphones AOI-UCL-03 (fotosub-shop.com)
and there is even less video review of it.
By looking at the spec, the aoi have a 90° view angle, while the inon is a 45°, and for the smaller subject I would like to film (Nudibranch of 1 cm or less) i think the narrower fov is better.
But this is just me without any video confrontation 🙃
I really would like a vs video like this between the AOI-UCL-03 and the UCL-G55 SD
Thanks @makar0n, I asked in the other post if they got some footage for me 😁
About where to get it is not a problem, I already found a reseller in italy that has it avaiable 🙂
Did you got them @CaolIla in the end? Do you have some footage? I am particularly interested in the G55 result, and how small you can go with the subject with a good resulting image
Someone have already tried the new Inon G55?
I saw it on their website and it seems really cool, but I'd like to see some more footage made with it before getting it, the only video i found online is their promo video on the page, that is also shared with another lens, the G100
I'll link the video to show what the lens should be capable of with a GoPro 😀
I contacted the shop where I bougth the lens (FmFotoVideo) and they suggested me to swap the frontal lens as the novus kit would not work on this type of lens.
I also contacted Inon and they suggested the same thing.
Since buying the novus kit from ebay would cost me around 60€, and the replacement of the lens including labor cost is 80€, I opted for the lens swap.
Thanks, I will get the novus kit, it was featured in one of the dome restoration video, and it worked really well.
I'll post the result once done, hoping for improvement and maybe to help someone else with the same lens
I read again the description on the inon official page, and it seems that the multi coating is in fact on the inner side, with an hard coating externally, but now i am not sure if the external dome is glass or acrylic 😅
Reading the manual, it should be acrylic:
And if it is the case, as I saw online, it should be good news for me
As in the title, I scratched my lens while I was changing to the other one underwater, dropping on a rocky bottom.
The result is a smudge on the footage, that move around in the image due to the stabilization happening. I would love a way to reduce the impact on the taken video, but not spending too much.
Here is an image of the damage circled in red:
Do anyone had a similar problem with inon lens? I am afraid to use the few method I found online, since the method are usually for acrylic dome witouth the multy-layer coating that is present on this lens.
Any reply is apreciated
Scuba diver since 2021, started taking video and photo underwater with a yi cam 4k, upgraded to GoPro 11 almost immediately, after my first big trip to philipphines, I improved my setup with UFL-G140 and UCL-G165 SD inon lens and a better grip. With the dec 2023/gen 2024 trip to Raja Ampat, I used a lot this setup with good result. Currently I am improving my skill with practice and a video sub course.
Joined to ask information regarding setup similar to mine, and to get some suggestion to improve and mantain it.
