Mexico Underwater Camera "Tax" spread to Cancun
Hi Gary (and all), I used a carnet the last time I flew into Cabo. It is a stressful experience, and it takes time, but it is better than facing the camera scam tax. Ensure that everything is listed correctly on the carnet and give yourself plenty of time, as the agents pulled out most of my equipment (both coming into and leaving from Cabo). Other than that, using the carnet worked well for me. I received the educator discount for the Socorro park fee (as I teach at a University) and used that extra cash to purchase the carnet. Price depends on what you price your gear at - I looked up as many used things as I could and kept notes on each, in case I was asked to prove the prices. I didn't use the carnet again when I flew into Cozumel and almost got nabbed (they repeatedly asked how many cameras I had). I gently insisted 'only one with a few extra bits' and, smiling, the customs agents let me pass, at least this time.

Nauticam CMC-2 - $150
Clean, clear glass - used when I have a Sony RX100V (which I long ago sold) The new price is $450, but I'm selling it for $150; the buyer pays shipping. Please email me at Wunderdiver@gmail (not including the last part so I don't get lots of junk mail). Backscatter Price: $450.00 https://www.backscatter.com/Nauticam-CMC-2-Compact-Macro-Converter-2-Super-Macro-Lens The CMC-2 is the less powerful of the two Nauticam Macro Converters designed for compact cameras, but magnification when compared to the capabilities of these cameras with no accessory lens is still very impressive. As an example, the popular Sony RX100 M4 can capture an image area 160mm (6.3 in.) wide at its full telephoto zoom position and minimum focus distance. With the addition of CMC-2, that image area is reduced to 55mm (2.2 in) wide. CMC-1 brings the minimum focus distance even closer, allowing a captured frame 36mm (1.4 in) wide! Optimized for Autofocus By utilizing a specially developed algorithm in the lens design process, the CMC-2 renders superior image quality over the full focusing range of the camera lens. This, combined with the high brightness and contrast of the image, enables the autofocus system of the camera to work effectively, often surpassing the performance of less powerful close-focus lenses. Just as significant are the out-of-focus (Bokeh) portions of the image that exhibit the same creamy smooth quality that photographers appreciate when shooting macro in air, all without color fringing common to traditional magnifying lenses.

Mexico Underwater Camera "Tax" spread to Cancun
As this thread is for people who DO want to travel to Socorro, I'll fill everyone in as to my experience. I have the carnet in hand and will travel in a week. I used Boomerang Carnet (ATA) https://www.atacarnet.com/. The service has been very helpful so far.

Hi, thanks for the nice comments. I am using Inon Z330 strobes. I had to time the shots so that I could get flash as it was a bit dark down there.
