  1. That's great to hear, the technology is moving on very quickly.
  2. My ABS parts have been amazing for the last 8 years. I just bought the Bambu X1C and got a variety of ABS/ASA filaments, including some CF / GF variants. I'll make a bunch of Lembeh pokey stick handles for my staff which should be a good test for longevity as they look after their equipment sooooo well. [/sarcasm] I'll post here once they're in the field and update accordingly. Separately. I'm amazed at the print speed/quality on the X1C. I'm running it alongside a Flashforge Adventurer 4 (which I know isn't a particularly good printer) and it's well worth twice the initial investment. VS my old Lulzbot Taz5 it's also a massive improvement. Modern self levelling is amazing and that's where I wasted most of my time on the Lulzbot. Is anyone running a modern Ultimaker on the forum?
  3. If I didn’t have the luxury of all the space to keep my camera equipment in Indonesia, and had to reduce it down to one camera - it would be the Canon R5c in Nauticam. Great Stills, Great 8K, Af similar to Sony. Nauticam housing supports a battery power bank so it lasts all day even shooting 8K Raw. Eventually someone will make an external battery for the mirrorless systems, but until then this is the best option in my opinion.
  4. I haven’t used the FX3 extensively on blackwater, I don’t recall the settings but I put the options somewhere in the middle - then tweak during the dive using the tracking toggle where needed. However you’re going to lose the subject all the time on the 90mm, which has the fastest focus. The general principle is to get as close as you can, so I’d probably try and butcher something together with the 50mm macro and a small dome. Then you’re focussing on a virtual image and I believe would get a little more DOF / less focus hunting. I have the 50mm macro and I’m hoping to print a focus gear for it to try out after the European diveshow season is over. I’ve tried the 90mm and I didn’t get along with it as the camera / housing relatively is small compared to the port. So it felt a little unbalanced. I’ve just spent several thousands on a whole bunch of floats for the camera room so we can try and get people’s cameras balanced properly, which is key for BW video. The next problem is the 90mm is such a tight viewing angle - Phil at Reef Photo suggested the 28-60mm lens with the WWL-1B to me when I brought this up at DEMA, which I’ll probably get at some point. This might well be video specific advice as we like more negative space in the composition. The FX3 is such a great camera, I really enjoy using it, especially with the EMWL. I’m hoping to get a monitor for it soon as all my ‘big’ cameras use SDI rather than HDMI. I have the Kraken 5” on my R5C which is really good even when side by side with the mega expensive ones from RED and SmallHD. Since I hit 40 I need a monitor on everything 😂
  5. I haven’t printed much since COVID, but looking to come back to it with a new housing on the way. Previously I’d used a lulzbot taz5 with ABS, and the parts I made - knobs / monitor shades - are still going strong today (printed 2016). The printer is still good but I fancy something new with self levelling. I’m curious about SLA printing, but from what’s been posted in this thread I’ll probably get a new FDM printer. I would imagine that tropical sun will over-cure SLA parts as they age, although equipment is rarely in direct sunlight for too long.
  6. Hi All, I see many keeping the old usernames, so I’ve kept mine too! I’ve stumbled across this site whilst checking something for 3D printing and happy to have found you all. I’m Simon, I was on the old wetpixel since the first Olympus housings when I was still developing film on a liveaboard in Palau. Since then I’ve worked in Tahiti, Socorro, Philippines and Indonesia. I have owned NAD-Lembeh since 2010 with my wife, Zee. (She’s friendly, I’m techie 😂) Onsite we currently have a variety of Olympus TG series cameras and a Canon 1Dx for rental / staff cams. We have D500 and D850 rigs that were not sure what to do with at the moment. For stills I’m currently shooting a Canon R5c and the missus just got a Z8 for Christmas. We use the new Sea and Sea D3 Duo at the moment, but we still have many inon Z330’s on site. I’ll probably give the new Kraken mini strobe a try soon. For focus light there’s only one option - the FIXneo - mainly due to being able to put it down to 1% power for blackwater dives. For Video I shoot a few different options: Sony FX3 for low light performance. RED Gemini/Helium/ Raptor-X for production work. Phantom VEO4K for 1000fps high speed. GoPro for BTS bits and embarrassing clips of me speaking. Video Lensing- the Nikon 70-180mm is the standard go to lens for macro work, but with the Nauticam EMWL I use the 100mm a lot more these days. For lighting we use Kraken lights for our blackwater downlines, I use Keldan’s for my video work (high CRI), although the Krakens have worked fine as a backup. If something is unreliable we don’t use it, so if it stays on my kit list you can assume I’m happy with it - if you have any questions about any of the above please let me know. Everything but the Olympus are housed in Nauticam housings. With the amount of equipment we use, we have to pay for it. We do not take freebies for influence - although I wouldn’t mind some free holidays in the South Pacific 😂
