Subal Housing for the D2X

  1. Angled viewfinders can also be useful for split level shooting.

  2. It has been really interesting to hear people's thought on this

I looked into the Seacam about 6 months ago when I decided to go dSLR, and like MorBoi, it was the total package cost that put me off. Especially going Subal > Subal vs Subal > Seacam. It might seem strange given what the camera costs, but I could see the value in the expense of the D2X over, say, the D70 in terms of improved image quality. For me though the additional cost of a Seacam would not have gotten me a comparable change in image quality.

For me I think compact will be better .... if such a thing can be said of a ND2!!! ;)

I will be inspired by the fact Alex takes more than decent shots without a GS

.... and if I ever get to see another D2X in a Subal housing with a GS viewfinder here in sunny Jervis Bay ... who knows ... it may be so good I just have to have one!

  3. Have you looked at the Aquatica housing? It is literally thousands less than the others and it too is a machined aluminum housing.

Peter Mooney should be getting his soon - you should check it out. He's in OZ too - Cairns. That's only what - 2,000 miles away??? :-)

LOL ... yep ony 6,000 km round trip ... why didn't I think of that!

anyway I have a subal housing is on its way ... so maybe saved a bit of a drive, eh!

  5. I would have loved the GS Viewfinder. I was told I could have an ND2 without one now, or wait another nine months for one with. So, I decided to do without for the time being. Apparently it's no beg deal to retrofit, once one can actually get the viewfinder.

  6. I'll see the team from Subal in Antibes next weekend and I will ask about viewfinder availability for retro fitting. 9 months seems a long gestation for one.

I haven't seen the Aquatica myself yet, but I hoping to this weekend. It is black like the one at DEMA it will be serious cool. The Darth Vadar of UW camera housings!
