I have ordered the 8 inch dome port for my 10D housing.
I am also planning to purchase a 5D housing and use the sigma 15mm FE with the 5D giving the combination 180 degrees of coverage. Will the 8 inch dome allow this combo to function at 180 degrees?
The Ike web page talks about a mounting kit for the 8 inch dome but I was unable to find it listed. Will this mounting kit be required for this combo.
Thanks in advance ... Tim
PS. I also have the 5503 dome for the canon housing. Will this dome provide 180 degrees of coverage.
Still no godda bigga doma so answer is conecture. Surely we will know more in the next few weeks about this project that was to be completed last June............
Ike, could you be more cryptic?
As I said in your other post tim. With the 6inch domes the answer is easy. 5503 definatly will not work. 5503.15 is the dome you need.
Ike's 8inch dome is new and No one has tryed the 8inch dome on a full frame camera so you will have to pool test to find out compatability. And when you do, post yoru results here.
The 8" Aquatica dome is great and works with full frame w/ a fisheye lens (I tried it w/ my Kodak FF).
On the other hand, when you marry the Aquatica dome to an Ikelite housing you have to use an extension/adapter that pushes the dome out about 20mm. This MAY cause vignetting when used with a FF camera. And it may not put the nodal pt of the dome in a good spot either.
In any case, Ike makes domes for FF film cameras and the Nikkor 16mm lens, they also make a dome for the cropped sensor cameras that use the 10.5mm nikon - which has the same angle of coverage.
So - time to get testing and report the results>..:-)

It must be the long gours I have been working but I do not recall your answer to this question in a previous post. I also seem unable to find a 5503.15 in the Canon Port charts.
I do see the 5503 listed for the Sigma 15mm FE.
More than likely it is the Ike website or the fact I just got up.
I guess time and money will tell.
You need to look at "port system" rather than "port chart"
Found it! I think Ikelite's site could use a little reorganizing. The price to be paid for keeping things low cost.
The Sigma is listed as 2.5 inches. The 5503.15 is listed for for lenses less than 2.5 inches and the port charts do not list this port.
I tried the 15mm with the 5503 on my 10D and it seemed ok. The only beef i had was it was small difficult to fit on the housing with confidence. I guess I was hoping the 8 inch dome would also let me use this lense and cover 180 degree which I will have access to with the 5D. Looking at the chart I see I was mistaken that it covered the 15mm.
Obviously we can not have everything we want with Ikelite given it's excellent price and good service.
PS. Your camera is MIA?
just a note on dome diameter and fisheye lenses. When I was assisting David Doubilet on Guam he was using a custom dome with his fisheye lens that was between 3 and 4 inches in diameter. I would be curious to see a test compairing image quality on a 6" and 8" dome. Actually a very controled test in a pool using a grid pattern.
Large domes aren't needed for fisheye lenses, because these lenses project a curved virtual image.
Nexus makes a wonderful TINY (4"???) dome for the 15mm fisheye.

Not that fond of pools or tests but perhaps in this case it maybe worth a little investigation.
Amigos,
Sigma 15mm EX fisheye is a very short (physically) lens. Works fine on 1.6X sensor cameras with teh #5503 as detailed on Ikelite's web site. Because this is a very short lens it may not protrude enough in the 8" dome to avoid vignetting on a full frame Canon 5D camera.
The #5503.15 dome port is slightly shorter fitting very close to short fisheye lenses. On a full frame camera this might be the best solution. We'll know more once the Ikelite Canon 5D housing is ready!
YMMV
