Ikelite DS-80

So which of you lucky ***s that went to DEMA saw Ike's new DS-80?

Digital Diver gives it a mention ... http://www.digitaldiver.com.au/ ... but there's nothing on the Ikelite website ...

The site also mentions a DS-200. Personally I find that one more interesting.

After contending it was not possible, the knowledgeable types believe a digital compatible SubStrobe 200 is possible. It seems to be passing all required tests.

I only know what they tell me, and they only tell me what they want me to know.

The DS-80 is very sophisticated with LCD display information and push-buttons to activate functions. It features the latest micro-processor controlled IGBT circuitry. Shown bottom of following URL, but doubt if available until after first of the year:

Yes, DS200!!! I'll be the first to send in my SS200's for the retrofit Ike. That is great news.

That will be the highest power, widest beam digital strobe on the market.

Oh no, I thought I am done with buying anymore u/w photography equipment for awhile but if a DS200 really comes out, I guess I still have a bit more room for shopping. I hope the strobe is compact though!

Have you ever used a SS200? It's anything but compact - but it's worth it. They are about the size of coffee cans, but at least they float in water.

Nope, never even seen one. However if it floats a bit, that would be great.

I was not quite clear from the thread if it is just a retrofitted SS200 or a brand new DS200 strobe.

Thanks Ike for the update. I saw the DEMA report and was very excited to see an all new strobe. But something larger than a DS-125 is what I would be looking for. Perhaps a DS-400?

Seriously though. I keep telling myself that I'm nearly done with equipment purchases. And I ought to be after shelling out $550 to upgrade my strobes and housing to iTTL. But a DS-200 would certainly get my wallet to open up! Put me on the waiting list!
