Lembeh & Raja Ampat photos

3 posts
  1. I've just posted some photos from my recent Indonesia trip (got home two days ago), which involved 5 days at Lembeh and 11 days aboard Ondina with Deb Fugitt (man, does she know how to organize a photo trip!).

Lembeh was all macro, of course, but much of the Raja Ampat boat was wide angle, which I'm really trying to get the hang of. It seemed to help significantly shooting WA with higher shutter speeds (e.g., 1/125th to 1/160th vs. my typical 1/60th) and somewhat lower apertures (e.g., f8 instead of f11 or higher, which I previously in an attempt to improve depth of field). Not sure why the results seemed better with the new settings, but they did...

BTW, I had some difficulty getting wide and powerful enough reef coverage with my little Inon Z220s, and I'm thinking perhaps I need something beefier (though hopefully not TOO much bulkier) for WA. Any ideas in that regard...or comments/criticisms on the photos in general...would be much appreciated.

  2. I want to go so bad.....very nice collection of shots Bruce......What do you call the fish in the last shot?

    That's a beemerfish. :(

It's a photo of my "underwater" BMW motorcycle...something I try to get a photo of on each dive trip. My biker buddies get a big kick out of seeing my bike in "unusual" (unnatural?) situations, e.g., with schooling jacks in PNG, with a seahorse in St. Vincent, in the Indian Ocean, etc., etc. On my prior trip to Indonesia, I even got a shot of m BMW being "admired" by a hogfish...
