These last months have been very good for obseving mobulas in Gran Canaria in a very special dive-site. It´s usually early in the morning or late in the afternoon when it´s easier to see these animals, sometimes in groups with up to ten individuals. I never get tired of this even if I do it three times and I don´t see the mobulas (I almost always do ) because it has a lot to offer...
This is Luisa following a couple of them:
I hope you like them!
Great shots David!
Mike, watch out! Now you have to post some from Yap, otherwise you will loose the title of Manta Boy!
great sequence...some really nice blues and great formations...although you can't really see it on these photos, i love the greenish tinge on the back of mobulas. And they have a very different behaviour than mantas
Luiz...stick to the scaly fish! Your knowledge of elasmobranches is sorely lacking...

Mantas and Mobulas are all in the same family! Myliobatidae (subfamily Mobulinae)... And most people won't be able to tell the difference between Mubula and Manta!
Those are some nice shots ... although ... you know that feelign you get when you travel on a train or something sitting backwards .. not quite sick .. but you know its not right ...
the third photo down feels like it should be flipped vertically to me.
However if you are anything like me then you know thats the way round you took the photo so nothign else looks right to you.
I went to Costa Rica to see Mobulas .. or Cow Nosed Rays as well ... I didn't get to see a damn one ... was so annoyed .. at least i got all the sleeping white tips ... and the cool scorpion fish.

I actually think that the more pointy fins of the Mobulas make them look more elegant than the average fat-boy manta. Pretty pix. I think Number 3 should be a vertical too.
And aren't we in the same family as all tyhe great apes (well some people I know certainly are!)?
