HC1 ...MWB...Gates....Ikelite

Could I get some expert opinions? I bought a HC! with the intentions of MWB. Seems like only the Manual housings will do MWB. Ikelite is good, but limited ports and lenses?? Gates has Fatom Imaging ports, expensive, but apparantly great. If I should change camers, I am under the impression that the FI ports will interchange with another Gates Housing or other housings. Internal flip filter + External filter -

Lights....are all the HID lights adaptable to either housing?

Hi Jim,

Yes, the Fathom Imaging ports are fantastic. NOt sure about sizing on them for the small cameras like the HC1 and say a big one like the FX1. The mount may be different on the housing, perhaps Ryan or Peter will know more as they are dealers in some different gear.

Lights are compatable all across. Its just the mounting system that you would have to play with to get them to fit on different housings.

There are lots of threads about the HC1 and its sister camera in the video forum where you can learn a lot about the different things going on with these popular cameras

each manufacturer makes their own port mounts. Thus the FI lens unfortunately isn't interchangeable.

Drew, i think he means staying with same housing manufacturer and just upgrading camera at some point. IE would say the port from a TRV950 housing fit on a PD 170 housing...

At least that is what i thought.

I was covering the other housing part of the question mike. :-)

As for optics for each camera, Fathoms designs lens for each specific camera. So long as the focal lengths and lens size stay the same, there shouldn't be a problem. HOWEVER, a lens designed for the 37mm TRV950 is not going to work on the Z1. The reverse may workable provided you get the optimal distance to lens correct.

The HC1/A1E Fathom lens is a 1.5 and the FX1/Z1 is a 4.5..

Don't ask me anymore thats all I remember from 6hours of talking on the phone yesterday.. So no they do not fit..
