Wich Strobe ?

Hi all !

I just ordered a Nikon D200 body and the Subal housing for it. For the last three years had been using the Nikons Sb 105, first with the nikon N90 and after with the Nikon D100. I think is a good strobe but not great for digital photography. I have been thinking about the Ikelite DS125 or may be the new Inon. If you will have to buy new ones wich ones you will get? I will love the subtronics but I don't have any money left

I've got a pair of the new Inon D2000W. They're great for macro and portraits, but not fantastic for wide angle (at least for what I do personally).

If you're going to shoot a lot of wide angle and weight and bulk are not an issue, I would recommend the Ikelite 200. It's powerful, recycle fast, and has a modeling light. There's also a digital version due out some time this year.

Alternatively, if you're worried about the weight and bulk, the DS125 is very good too, and a bit smaller and lighter than the 200 (at the expense of light output).

125 is quick to recharge but not all that powerful. Probably not much diff than 105 (but i have no idea) but definitely recharges quicker.

Ike is supposed to be coming out with a new DS200 that should be a sweet strobe.

Not really sure why you say 105 not good for digital, it has plenty power settings and as your D100 is only 200ISO it should be just the same for that camera as N90.

But, i am also looking for more powerful strobes (i currently own YS120s) and am looking for the new DS200s for sure. I don't care that they are "digital" strobes, i just hope they are smaller than the original 200s and pack the same punch

I ues 2 DS125's with my D2X and have been very happy with them although I already placed an order for DS200 (don't know when I will get it, hopefully in time for my trip to Yap next month?).

At 1/2-full power, DS125 output is adequate for iso 100, F9-11 for close up wide angle and definitely powerful enough for all macro shots.

What do you guys like if using 1 strobe for Wide angle.?

It depends.. How wide is wide for you?

In any case, a good all round strobe is the Ikelite 200, that can cover a rather wide lens, is powerful, recycles fast, etc... If you're only going to pack one, this one's probably the best choice.
