I just spent the last 6 months off and on trouble shooting my Canon 1DsII that was having very intermitant lockups but no error messages. The camera went to Canon 3 times, the first time they replaced the shutter mechanism, the second they said they could not find anything wrong and sent it back. Within two weeks, the camera locked up again and I handed it to a friend to confirm I was not loosing my mind. He noted that when he grabed the camera from me that it flickered to life when his finger hit the on/off switch.
We started fiddling with the power switch on the camera and found that if you pulled out on the swith ever so slightly the camera would lockup or shut off. Off it went back to Canon and they replaced the switch, however, they would not/could not say what caused the switch to fail or if they had even seen this issue before.
This is where my housing comes in....the first time I put the camera into the housing I aligned the on/off switch on both housing and camera (this is the only thing between the two that has to be in sync
) However, one time during my initial dry land familiarization of the housing, I had the housing apart with the camera inside and turned the camera on to run some tests. I forgot to turn the camera off
and proceeded to close the housing up. When I went to turn the camera on via the housing, I felt some resistance and before I could react the on/off switch self aligned with the camera on off switch.
I am wondering if the pressure of the closed housing with the mis-aligned on/off control may had caused or contributed to my switch going bad.
So my question is, has anyone else run into this or maybe have closed up their housing with the on/off switch mis-aligned and NOT had a problem?
Thanks, Keith
