Ikelite Manual digital Slave Sensor

  1. Thanks Ike,

Sounds like the manual controller will be pretty cool.

Problem with the new 5050 housing is extreme difficulty in pushing buttons, especially two at a time, while trying to turn a dial and watch the monitor without extra helping hands. We are exloring a better way to accomplish for this superb new camera.

That is my concern with the C-5050z and the only thing keeping me from upgrading from my C-4040z at this point.

  2. Ike,

Thanks for the info; it helps alot. This looks like a very useful controller for either digital or film. Since I use manual strobe for wide angle anyway, but it's a hassle to have to bracket strobe settings on two strobes set wide apart, this could be a very convenient way for me to bracket with one control. I'm assuming I could have a hardwired T cord coming from the controller to my two strobes? Any problem with that?

    I think I want one! :)

More photos here. There are two of them mounted on ULCS arms with an Ike mini-arm. A dual Ike cord connects them to the bulkhead, and each connects by cord to a DS-125. I've electrical-taped the fronts because I don't want them firing on slave mode. :)

Some basic testing shows that they are varying the strobe power quite nicely. I'll have some field results in a couple weeks. :)

  4. The photos help, Eric, thanks for posting them. I guess there is no way to attach the output of the controller to a dual connector like the one Sea&Sea makes, since that requires a Nikonos strobe cord end. Ike used to make a connector like that, but apparently doesn't anymore. I could see an advantage to having just one controller to adjust both strobes (would work for most of my shots), although you'd need to adjust with strobe distance to vary the effective light from the two strobes differently if you wanted that.

Did the little Ike arms come with the right hardware to attach to ULCS arms?

  5. I think a second strobe with digital sensor can slave off the primary strobe.............limited to the same power setting, but requiring only one manual controller

  6. True Karl, and I'm sure that's the intended configuration for two strobes with one controller. However, I'm a big fan of hardwired connections. I think I'd rather set it up Eric's way than set up a slave.

  7. Weather permitting I plan on testing this unit this weekend. Should be back after New Years Day. I have one I intend on testing by istelf and in combo with the TTL remote slave and 1 - 2 DS 125s. I write you a report.

  8. Did the little Ike arms come with the right hardware to attach to ULCS arms?

yeah -- I may play with having a dual-cord come off of the manual strobe controller, so one controller controls both strobes. I tend to use them both at the same power, anyway.

Ike sent me a short ike-arm with a mounting hole in one end. I just got a screw, two washers, and a nut and attached it to one of the holes in the ULCS arm. Seems to work fine. :)

  9. How can you get 1 controller to work with both strobes? As I understand it you have to have the controller plugged into the strobe. Only way I can see is the way Ike recommends. Using the remote TTL sensor with the other strobe. As per conversation with Ike's enginer you can get get ratioed lighting by varying the strobe to subject distance.

  10. I don't see any way to do it hardwired without modifying the cord connectors. It would have been much more flexible if they'd put a bulkhead in the controller instead of the single cord. Then, you could set it up any of the dual strobe ways, like Eric's two controller system, or with one controller and a sensor, or with one controller and a dual cord.

  11. It definitely would be more flexible with two bulkheads instead of the hardwired cord. Placement of the controller is limited to the length of the attached cord. Hopefully Eric will come up with something creative...

  12. Hi Guys,

This is a very old post, but I'm hoping time will work to my advantage..

I'm wondering if anyone did make a cord to work with one controller and two strobes?

I'm planning on making one by using some diodes and a twin cable. Since the manual controller is powered from one strobe I'll have to designate one as the powersource.

Any ideas you might have are greatly appricieated.

    Best wishes,

    Espen :-)
