Wetpixel flickr, friendster, orkut groups

Guys - I've never posted this link, but we have a Wetpixel flickr group:

http://flickr.com/groups/wetpixel/

Also have a (new) friendster group:

http://www.friendster.com/group/tabmain.php?gid=72845

On orkut, we're listed as "Underwater Photography" (but it's been taken over by Brazilians, as has all of orkut):

Join up, if you're interested.

you going to make a plugin to make it easy for us to flickr post to wetpixel posts and galleries ?

perhaps. although, if I do that, it will be a very loose connection between wetpixel and flickr -- basically, a flickr photo-strip (whatever they call them) somewhere on our site.

i was wondering if something like FAlbum could be used with is it expression engine with some modifications ... using the flickr api to make it seem like it is actually a page in wetpixel ... I am flickr mad right now so forgive me ... but i love seeing people put it's api to some use.

so what is flickr and friendster for us old people who have no idea what you are talking about

Is it really easier to ask than it is to click through, or to do a google search?

yes, it is easier to ask, sllllllooooooooooowwwwwwww internet here....

Perhaps a brief description of what these links are as i am sure a lot of people here are like me and don't just click on every link in the threads. It takes me at least 10 mins to open a webpage that has flash for instance.

Are they blogs? Chat rooms? Porn sites?

Tell people why they should click on the link

mike .... don't bother ... we dont need slow old people with slow old connections .. slowing down the internet any more than it already is... check your emails .. check wetpixel .. sign off .... you'll be ok

Mike -

flickr is taking the web by storm. even my mom and dad have flickr accounts. easy photo sharing, with community and blog posting features. post to the web by dragging a bunch of photos into a native application on your desktop. it resizes, uploads, extracts exif and iptc data, and posts to your account.

friendster: classic 7-degrees website. community oriented.

orkut: same, but by google. more "tech" focused -- started with google employees and their friends (basically, my computer science class from college).

google is your friend. i normally don't like it when people ask questions without doing a *bit* of research first, but if you're on a slow connection and live out in the boondocks, you have an excuse.

Thanks Eric,

I tried to open friendster earlier and after 7 mins the page still didn't come up......

I tried a second time a while later and it did after only 5!... seems to need a login and password (that was not the link you gave, just the main page)

I will try the link you gave..

And Giles!!!!! I'm only 33....

I know .. i was just playing ............

if you have time mike have a play with flickr ..... it's addictive all the little neat features such as annotating the images and creating hot areas .. that makes it fun ... I love going through my friends photos and adding notes or comments to them .. and then they get to retaliate back ...

granted i use it mostly for fun party photos .. but ... then again I haven't really got any realy photos

Hola Giles, i know you were kiddin...remember i am Canadian, we have the English sense of sarcasm... mind you Joe Belanger is rather good....for a Yank!!!

Anyhoo, i signed up for friendster today, it took me 45 mins....

yet i don't understand what is going on there....nothing to be seen....

What is the coordination with Wetpixel? I thought the point of WP was to interact here? What do we do over there?

Most of my friends are on msn messenger and we chat that way, its real time. Still not sure what the point of these other sites are all about, or is that aboot!?

I guess if you want to send pics to friends? But what is wrong with email?

Guess i am just a devils advocate but i don't see the point...

If you don't see the point, it's probably not for you. But millions of people say otherwise.

Friendster is mostly a younger audience, and even they are losing kids to MySpace. As a website, Friendster sucks, and orkut has problems all the time. Growing pains, perhaps. There is no real community in underwater photography on those sites. But having a flickr group for the community might be fun.

Friendster is mostly a younger audience,

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Well crap...guess that leaves Mike and I out

But then again...he's only 33.

Do they have a similar site for us senior citizens ? Something like "Not Even A Flickr"......

Well..not actually a senior citizen, but closer than I would like.

Aaaaa man!! Do i now need to spend hours trying to get on to flickr....

Good thing i didn't go diving this morning....

Gee Mike;

I'll trade you unlimited internet access to live in Yap and dive...somehow, someway, I just don't feel sorry for you.

If it makes you feel any better we almost broke the record for consecutive days of rain here in Seattle, stopping at 29 days in a row, broken by one day last weekend...

Jack

Wow, Seattle worse than Vancouver! they only had 27 days.

I need no sympathy....just faster internet!! actually its not that bad but gets frustrating at times....

I see you have Flickr Jack, i will check it out!

if anyone is interested my username on flickr is 'caymaniac'

mostly just fun photos to share .. i normally link them in my blog (i find that storage very usefull as it save me bandwidth)

one of my favourite sites right now btw is 43 .... .com i.e.

www.43people.com

www.43places.com

www.43things.com

a very good idea for a bunch of websites there .. not relevant directly to wetpixel but i am sure some of the users ehre would enjoy them.
