  1. Please see corrected data in my reply, Thx, C :o

Hi all, yes I'm still in the "shrimp" folder (from Bali/Alor), can you tell???

Came across this interesting Tozeuma shrimp and juv dwarf/shortfin lionfish in Bali. I'd like to say I spotted the "eggs" and that was what the photo was all about, but I didn't see them till afterwards... (confession...).

Anyway aren't they cool? Looks like there were some more too, underneath? and it was attaching them??? or ??? And what about the empty "sacks"?

Does anyone know anything about these shrimp and their eggs? I'd love to know more.

Best, C (PS-for an idea of scale the lionfish is barely 1 inch long)

  2. Neat Shots! I love Bali (one of my favorite spots in the world), but man - I can *never* find any of these small things like those shrimp. I always float around aimlessly until someone shows me that I'm right on top of something awesome. I would never find the shrimp, let alone the eggs

  3. So you think that "I" found this.......??? :o

Well here in the states I have to find my own "stuff", that is why NOAA gave me a Scientific Diver Certification, cause I can find "fish" for them.......

But in Bali, nah, look here I am........., I could afford BOTH these fine gentlemen! Plus another one (Agung, my driver), who is taking the picture with my camera that I did not hat him on!!! (Thus the blown background, still I really like this pic!!)

Seriously, Yan is one of the best dive guides in Indonesia. And the other fine young man is Oby, a very motivated and hard working helper in Bali! They spoiled me!

Now I never want to have to find my own "stuff" again! B)

  4. Glory be, I mastered the "quote" button (by accident no doubt) :o

Anyway for those interested I made a big "fau-paux" on assuming the eggs on the leaf were linked to the eggs it was carrying. That is not the case here is Leslie's info below, she saved me yet again. Thx, C

There are about a dozen described species of Tozeuma and a bunch of undescribed ones but nearly every picture on the web is labelled T. armatum whether it is or not.  Supposedly T. armatum is only found on wire coral and lacks the ocelli (spots) on the side so yours is something else.  It matches some pictures in Debelius (Crustacea of the World) which are left as Tozeuma sp.  Shrimp always carry their eggs; the ones on the substrate look like snail eggs.

The horned shrimp is one of my favorites - Miropandalus hardingi Bruce 1983, family Pandalidae.  Lots of people mistake it for a Periclimenes but it's not even in the same family.
