Port Hardy BC Trip

I believe air temps will be much better than 13 degrees.

I am guessing more like the 20 range. As for water temps, let the barbs begin, count on 48 degrees. Sorry the computer is set to read in celcius and I just haven't taken the time to convert.

I will let you know if a spot is open on that Bahamas trip. I know Watt is coming again and Sallmon. Fleetham is a maybe. If my wife opts for not going I will let you know as that would free a spot. That is in the Bahamas, not the USA, so feeding is allowed.

As for the hundred sharks, I would love it. Although the artificial 14ft hammerheads and tigers come around I still find them to be a truly beautiful creature to see. I am hoping we see the Bulls up at Walker's again too.

You should go see Chris and Monique in SA for the flying sharks. They were on our trip in January. I haven't yet but am really hoping to soon. Outstanding people. Apparently they are doing makos and blues also. Not sure if that meets your definition of artificial but...

yes, and all the hotchocolate you can drink after dives. Don't forget the hot tub also.

Har Har - I was cleaning the dead frogs and hedgehogs from my neighbours swimming pool in just 4 degrees C wearing only my Typhoon 1-2mm skin. My temples gave in before the insulation!!!

Seriously: If its anything like the east coast we had a thermocline at 12m, above which was 15 degrees C - Below it was just 4 degrees but the viz was awesome.

Don't get breathing that argon stuff again! Baked Beans are a safer alternative

baked beans...you can open that drysuit up after the dives. I prefer the clean crisp air of BC.

You can pretty much set your watch by the water temps in Port Hardy. generally 48 to maybe 50 at the surface. Actually it is not that bad at all. And, as you mention the vis can be great. Don't forget the traditional jump in with your bathing suit on. Ah refreshing!

That said I probably just jinxed the vis to 20ft.

I do have an ID book for that area. Same as the ones on the boat. I believe the purple ringed top snail is a beauty and can be found. Not to mention the anemone and macro life.

Giant Pacific octopus, harbour seals and sea lions. Oh I forgot the wolf eels. There tends to be artificial feeding of the eels on Hunt rock. 13 wolf eels that are used to getting sea urchins.

Now I am getting excited but Roatan first.

Wow....baked beans, Argon & Wolf eels. I can hardly wait!!

The best bear trip would be the Salmon & Bears - beginning on the 25th August. So better after the diving eh! Hope we get better pictures than that eh! (Practicing Canadian - eh!) We could re enact the John West Advert!

I usually stop at the liquor store in town prior to boarding for beer. Guiness may be a stretch for the small town but, it may not. I do recall a pretty good selection of some premium beers. I do enjoy a Kilkenny myself.

Just take your mess bag and hang it over the side of the boat and voila instant natural cooling.

I would much prefer Costa Rican Coffee! I should have asked Craig to bring a couple of kilo's back up!

If not Caffreys will do (If it's cold) and after the dives a nice long Campari & Sprite.

The first dive here was good this morning - 2mm skin job!

I just finished off the last of my Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee. Amazing stuff but, way too expensive.

I like coffe but, I try to avoid it when diving my drysuit in cold water if you know what I mean.

Yes, Dive Dypers had crossed my mind too - Diaretic and all that physiological business - 1 pint in 2 pints out!

Freshly ground Columbian coffee. Thats my caffeine injection preference.

As for the beer.....Nigerian Lager!, as I said.

Dragging the kit over board to keep cool. Now this brings back memories from those mad BSAC days when we had divers tieing their computers to their reel and lowering back into the water after a dive.....to finish the stops!!!......I kid you not.
