Hard to get close to, but really beautiful. I always look for one that is busy thinking about something else, like this one.

Beautiful patterns and color. Is that a night shot?
Joe
Impressive!
I've always wanted a really good shot of a Black Durgeon since the first time I saw one underwater. I always thought it would be hard to portray those beautiful colours and lines underneath all that black.
Thanks for letting me know it can be done.

Hey Joe
No, it was a day shot when I was shooting something else and being real still. He just wandered by and I got lucky.
That's where my best shots come from

Hey Mike - I like the pic, have you considered fliping this to a vertical with the fish facing down, it might engage the viewer a little more, see what you think. Great shot real nice exposure.
I couldn't help but notice the pattern change and softness in the fishes lower rear side, a little cloning tool work? or is that the fish?
Great shot - my wife's favorite fish!

I hadn't considered it, but I just turned my laptop upside down and I like it. I never think of those kinds of things, thanks.
I'm certainly not above a little cloning, but I don't believe I did any on this pic. I believe a contrast bump and sharpening was all I did.
Yeah - I think I like it as a vertical - can you post the gear used... lens strobe and camera settings. You lighted it so well no shadows and razor sharp on the eye which is most important.
I shoot lots of wide angle so I am interested in the settings and strobe type and power level in particular Thanks

Hey Steve
I was (was is the operative word, both my C5050's were just stolen) shooting a c5050 with the native lens, a single Inon D180, and EXIF says I was ISO 60, F4, 1/250. I don't know what setting I had the strobe, but chances are on that trip I was shooting in the auto sensing mode on the D180. It works pretty well for fish portraits.
Fuji E900 and Ike housing on order. DSLR down the road a bit further.
Mike
Great job would have thought it was a DSLR setup
