Subal 20D housing

  1. I need some help from someone with a 20D Subal housing.

Can someone please tell me what the distance is from the bottom of the camera to the housing wall (on the battery side of the camera, when the camera is mounted)?

    Thanks

    Peter

  2. At the built up edge/lip where the O ring sits it varies between 15 and 20mm. Once you get past this built up area it varies between 19 and 24mm (the lip is approx 4mm high). What're you planning on putting in there?

  3. Thanks Gudge

I'm hoping to be able to put a second battery in there.

  4. Spare battery? Are you sure you need it?

I can shoot 4 Gigs on one battery, which is 2-3 dives. At that point I need to pull the card. Its simple to change the battery at that point. The camera needs to slide part-way out of the housing for either operation.

I suppose if you are using an 8 Gig card you might be able to keep your camera sealed a little longer with two batteries. With a rebreather I guess you could spend a enough time underwater to shoot 6-8 Gigs in a day perhaps.

I agree! I can't see the need for a second battery either. Here in Exmouth diving on Ningaloo Reef a typical weekend for me is 4 dives with a total of 5 hours bottom time and 300+ RAW shots. I have to change my 2GB card at the end of each day but the battery lasts the whole weekend with plenty to spare.
