HELP, Ikelite housing camera mounting challenge

  1. Damien,

YES, small photo I posted before was taken with a Sigma 15mm EX fisheye lens on a Rebel XT (cropped 1.6X sensor.) What most don't realize is that since the Sigma 15mm fisheye starts as a 180 degree lens, it doesn't follow the 1.6X X 15mm = only 24mm field of view. It's wider! Somewhere equal to a 18-19mm field of view, 35mm equivalent....

Only straight lines at the extreme edges will show minimal distortion. Many, many photos I've sold just look like super wide photos depending if you shoot up or down and get any curvature at the top or bottom of your frame, too.

The Sigma 15mm EX (and now EX DG, but not much difference IMHO) is my best lens in making images. It focuses to 5.9" and can be used to shoot medium sized fish, too! I like it so much that I now own two just in case!

    Hope this explanation helps...

  2. Gordo, If it is the 8" dome with Superwide stalk, I have written some mounting instructions that may be usefull. Otherwise the mounting is pretty strait forward once you have it greased up. Just push the port on and flip the clips....

  3. David,

Thanks for the explanation, it was new info to me. I assumed that it would follow the 1.6 crop rules.

I've noticed the thread about the new Tokina fisheye for crop sensors, so am very keen to hear on feedback as I think the fisheye images look cool.

  4. Damien,

I went back and checked my EXIF file data, and the shot with a diver on the Seamount was shot with a Sigma 15mm EX fisheye, but on the Canon 5D and large 8"dome port!

Everything I stated as to the 1.6X magnification and fisheye lenses giving you a bit wider angle since they start out as 180 degree angle of view still applies.

So in the interest of truthiness ;) here's a shot using the Sigma 15mm EX fisheye on my Rebel XT and Ikelite 6" dome port.

    Still my most used lens.....
