Between the Storms in the Channel Islands

  1. This winter has seen a late of storm activity off of the California coast, but a month ago I hitched a ride on a friend's boat and had a day of absolutely flat calm weather. I have never seen the channel so smooth. The diving was also a blast. The highlight was this friendly Octopus. I love the false eye.

Here is a sea hare grazing. It is a little hard to see at this scale, but he has a tiny little eye. I didn't even know they had eyes! At that size it must be pretty primitive.

You can see from this sunset over Santa Cruz, that the channel was flat flat flat! Now if it could just get back to this state soon ;)

  3. I also like the sun over the island shot. When checking out your website, you call a common green anemone an "unusual anemone". It's a very common (probably the most common anemone, in Southern California. Happy diving.

The sun over Santa Cruz was taken with my new 5D. I don't yet have a housing for it yet since I wanted to let all of the vendors get thier offerings out before I make a major commitment. The underwater images were all with my trust 5050.

I knew that the anemone was relatively common, but I am dreadful at identification, especially of invertebrates. What I thought was unusual was the folded shape, sortof like a tricorn hat. Usually I run into aggregating anemone's which are much more symmetrical. I'd also be willing to be that they are more common in the warmer waters of the southern islands.

It is nice to see that someone critically at my web pages!

  5. hahahaha... I also called Garibaldi "CARP" in 1978
