Tripod & Mount for L&M Bluefin Housing

  1. I have been looking for a tripod solution for my Bluefin HD housing. I have to address how to mount it and what tripod to use. After scratching my head with various engineering ideas, I called L&M. Turns out they have an excellent adapter for tripods that is solid, easy to attach and low profile. As it turn out it works just as well as an adapter for scooters for cave and technical divers. Imagine not having to carry the housing at all under water, but instead having it attached to our scooter with a clean swivel head. See the picture below on the adapter and the scooter attachment made by Rodney Nairnes of Submerge scooters (Submerge Scooters).

I am now figuring out the tripod options. I don't want to spend a lot for something that will have limited life. I have done some asking on the ultra light option and the feedback has been so-so to negative. The DYNATRAN ebay option mentioned in prior posts looks good. I will then need a simple, corrosion resistent head that allows for a larger thread size mount.

    Any input would be appreciated.

  2. Hey Shwan

I once had a old video camera tripod that I started using underwater, got a couple years out of it before it fell apart. Cheap as..use to just wash it down and spray CRC on it.

For the Phenom I took down my old Manfrotto 501 a couple times, soaked it in fresh water and sprayed it with CRC, still works a treat. :D Even the buble level did not implode. I also took down a Sony remote in a clear plastic dry bag to see if it would drive the Phenom through the LCD.....no go but talk about vacume pack, remote still works.

  3. Wags,

this is reassuring...anyone have input on the Dynatran tripod base?

Silent Submersion, http://www.silent-submersion.com/Videomount/, has probably the best scooter attachment for video housings. It is also worth checking out if you have any scooter with that diameter. Rodney can most likely otherwise produce an attachent for any scooter diameter.
