Buying a seacam housing from Paris

  1. Well, that was a long time without posting here,

I finally decided to buy a seacam housing for my canon 1dMK2, i thought the only problem was the money, and now i realise it's not going to be the worse.

Local shops don't distribute seacam, they say they give no margins and that i should buy directly from them.

So i tried to email seacam to get an invoice, without any luck, then i found on their webpage the name of a guy who seems to be a reseller, but replied to my first email and not the second one,

seems incredible i can't get a decent invoice for such an expensive thing.

My concern with that guy is that he is in a small town far away from paris and might just be forwarding my questions to seacam europe and getting comissions.

I am also very worried about customer service and repairs if i finally get to buy that housing.

I'd be gratefull if you can share your experiences with seacam europe and france

  2. You should contact Harald Hordosch (Seacam boss) directly at office@seacam.com

He's often travelling, so it may be a while before he replies, but he's very helpful and always assists with enquiries.

    Cheers,

    Mathieu

    Alex,

i purchased my seacam housing through frederic depalle who is the seacam rep in france. no issues there. i don't know when you sent the emails to him, but i spoke with him yesterday and he was having emails trouble, and in fact only just got adsl 2 days ago so that might be part of the problem. i will send you his mobile phone number by pm if you want. you will only get the quote through him, if i am not mistaken as seacam austria will always put you back in contact with the country rep.

afaik seacam do not sell direct, however, the housing will be shipped from austria once it is built and available.

in terms of servicing and repairs (well there should not be repairs as these housings are built like tanks ) he would do small servicing here in france, but for anything else the item will go back to austria.

both frederic and harald have helped me out a number of times getting me items that i needed very quickly, however the one thing you ave to know is that harald goes to all the dive shows and sometimes when he is away things might not go as fast as you would want them.

if you want any more info just pm me and maybe we can have a chat ( i am in nice)

    /paul

  4. You will find details of Seacam dealers on Seacam's own website at:

    http://www.seacam.com/en/kontakt/kontakte.htm

including 'phone contacts and so on.

Please be aware that Seacam dealers are also underwater photographers and if they are like me, do tend to be away on occassions. Whilst I try to keep contactable (by monitoring emails and via my mobile) this can be problematic when on boats (or in the mountains near where I live - or even when I shot commercial jobs - I was underground a few days ago and the mobile was distinctly useless!) - emails are monitored though!

    Hope that this helps.

  5. I think Walt Stearns (WP member) in Florida may have a used one for sale.
