Got my Sea&sea 350D housing

18 posts
  1. Hey all, took delivery of my DX-350D housing today with an Athena OPD F170v glass dome. The sigma 10-20mm lens fits a treat with the extension ring 40 and there is no vigneting with the dome shade in place. The kit looks sweeeet!

I've yet to get it in the water but so far so good!

Thanks to everybody who has helped me out on these forums with my inane questions!

  2. nice... that athena dome looks very nice...

Out of curiousity, which strobes do you plan on using with it? I'm possibly looking at a similiar setup.

  3. Verry sweet looking!

Friend just bought an Ike, man your's is so much smaller.

Do let us know how you like it.

  4. man your's is so much smaller.

    :blink::o

never thought i'd be pleased to hear that!

Pakman, I have no strobes at the moment and that's the way it will be for a while, this is an ambient light setup for now :) . I think i'd go for one of the compact inons though.

    Cheers

  5. Notorious, well I hope you get a chance to post some pics with that setup. I just swung by a local camera shop to price a Sigma 10-20mm... That's good to hear about no vignetting

I'm 90% sure I'm going with your setup + macro ports and inon strobes, but I'm gonna take a look at a patima housing next week for the heck of it.

  6. Indeed, the Patima looks good, can't it accept Nexus 100mm screw ports?

If you can spend a little more then the canon 10-22 is probably better than the Sigma and you won't have a problem finding a zoom gear for it.

    Good luck

  7. Notorious, I doubt is accepts Nexus screw ports.

BTW, which zoom gear are you using with the Sigma 10-20? I looked at the Sea & Sea site and I don't see the the Sigma listed. Or are you using it without a zoom gear?

  8. OO Wee, it looks more comapct than I could ever imagine!

I have the same housing and have just ordered the Athena dome!

I looking forward to mounting my new dome on my housing.

I have the canon 10-22 lens, hope It performs just as well as the the sigma 10-20.

The canon lens is a few degreees wider than the sigma if i remember correctly.

  9. How do you guys find the shutter button on the S&S 350D? Does it feel slopping trying to do a half press? S&S had mentioned it was improved in the new model. Got to try a Patima housing in the store and the build is really nice, but I found the shutter button a bit mushy. Took me awhile to feel I was getting it half depressed. But again, this is my first DSLR housing I've actually played with... Hopefully my shop will be able to get a S&S 350D housing in for me to see in person.

  10. I have no complaints regarding the shutter on the dx-350d housing. It is accurate and easy to handle. But since this is my firts DSLR housing I have anything other than a compacts to compare with...

  11. I agree, the shutter feels very precise, you can really feel a click when half pressing the button and again when fully firing the shutter

  12. Thanks guys for the feedback on the shutter button. That's good to hear.

Notorious, BTW Yuzo at uwdigitalcamera.com said the Athena made zoom gear for the Sigma 10-20mm was jpy22,000. That's only US$36 more than the S&S zoom gear for the Canon 10-22mm...

  13. Yeah, Yuzo told me that athena would make to order a zoom ring for the sigma. I'm not that bothered at the moment as I'm a bit of a non-zoomer anyway. If it becomes a problem I'll get in touch with them. Going out on Saturday to shoot my first pictures so will definitely post some.............if they're OK!

    Good luck with it all

  14. What shade is it that you have mounted on the dome, is it the standard one that goes all around the port?

i have seen some pictures of a shade that consists only of the two shadewings and they are mounted only on the top and the bottom of the port.

  15. I just saw the S&S housing at my LDS today. Very nice indeed... I think I've made up my mind. Will probably order the Athena dome as well.

  16. Vannar, the shade is the one that goes all around the port. There is another one which just screws on top and bottom. I have the holes for this. Not sure of the pros and cons for each, it seems to add a good deal of protection and is made from Alu. The dome came all packaged up with the shade and a neoprene cover for the glass

  17. oooh look what the mailman brought today... Sea & Sea 350D housing, Athena dome, S&S TTL converter, and dual Inon Z-240's. Thanks to Yuzo at uwdigitalcamera.com for getting these out to me so quickly. Shipped Sat, arrived Mon. morning (but then that's just Japan to HK...). Can't wait to test it underwater.

  18. Now THAT looks like a tidy setup! Let me know how you get on with those srobes.

By the way, I'm not using any strobes but cleaned out the bulkhead conectors after diving the other day, did everything I should (removing upside down etc) but there appeared to be a couple of minute drops of moisture inside the conector. Cant be sure if it appeared during removal or not but will be keeping a very close eye on it!

I've posted my first pics with the 350D at http://wetpixel.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=14019 just playing though.

    Cheers
