Sea & Sea iTTL converter

  1. I'm in the process of researching a housing system for my new D200, I have pretty much settled on the Subal housing, and because I'm new to this, I would like the option of having TTL avialable, especially for macro work.

I own a YS-90DX and understand that I would need to buy different strobes to use the HeinrichsWeikamp converter.

From Sea & Sea's website, it looks like they make a converter that should work:

Does anyone use this and if so, offer any recomendations?

    Many thanks,

    John

  2. from my understanding, I hear the S&S converter is actually an OEM Henrich circuit. Anyways, I plan on getting the S&S converter later this month when I order my S&S housing

  3. I like the looks of the Sea and Sea converter - it's external and it looks like it can be used w/ any housing that uses Nikonos bulkheads.

If it does use the base processor from the Heinrich's unit, I wouldn't be surprised - however, it has some external interface added, like the manual to ttl switch, and the flash compensation.

    Cheers

    James

  4. It also looks to be campatable with alot more strobes than the Henrich circuit; mostly S&S strobes, but they are popular.

    Appreciate the comments.

  5. According to Sea & Sea, the TTL convertor plugs into a 6-pin bulkhead on the housing, but you plug 5-pin Nikonos-style strobe cords into the convertor, so it may require a retrofit to your housing.

Yes this is true if your a cannon shooter, but as I have understood it. The Nikon iTTL protocol uses only 5-pin.

But you may still have to rewire the cables between the nikonos connector and the camera to connect al the 5 pins directly to the camera.
