Wetmate Magic Filter?

  1. Distinguished Dr. Mustard;

    Bought some Magic Filters for my recent trip to N. Sulawesi and had great fun with them. I used them on my Ike/E900 rig. They worked pretty well as long as I stayed shallow with plenty of sun. It was fun just shooting available light and not worrying about strobes.

    BUT, it meant dedicating a dive to its use and trying to find just the right conditions, which actually happened quite frequently at the beginning and end of the dives. I also forgot to take the filter out one deeper dive and wasn't able to use the camera. Fishing the gel in/out of the port was also a PITA.

    How about creating a wetmate filter attachment that would use the popular Inon bayonet mount? Or a slip on/off sort of mount aka a Woodie's diopter. It would make the use of the filter much easier and I think be a very popular product.

    Cheers,

    Jack

  2. That's an interesting idea, Alex! Another possibility would be just a waterproof Magic Filter on a plain piece of plastic or glass that people could attach TO a wet port of their choice. And my guess is that lots of videographers would like it, too, since my impression is that the Magic Filter gives superior results to most standard red filters associated with video housings...

    Erm, that wasn't Alex repyling BTW!

    He is actually on the liveaboard m/v typhoon in the northern Red Sea this week in preperation for his Workshop next week - or rather, I hope he is as I'm one of his attendees!!!!!!

    (I expect he will get on-line this weekend though).

    Sorry - I should have made my post clear. I knew it wasn't Alex replying. I was actually just trying to augment Jack's original suggestion that Alex create a wetmate version of the Magic Filter (not that your suggestion wasn't good, too!). :P

    I always assume that if Alex doesn't respond to something right away, he's off diving somewhere. I just thought I'd add my $0.02 for when he DOES read this thread! ;)
