Subal port Cover

11 posts
  1. I have recently purchased a subal wide angle port for the Nikon 10.5 fisheye.

Considering the investment this requires I would have thought Subal would provide a decent neoprene cover.

The scull cap type by Subal isn't suitable for my needs, so my question is.......

Where can I get a cover to protect the port whilst in transit?

I have seen covers that look like a french beret with bungy type elastic to hold it in place. Are these available to purchase or home made?

    Any help would be appreciated.

  2. You are right. It's a travesty. I use one of the ones I had with the Nexus, Sea & Sea and Aquatica domes. Maybe you can buy them separately. Have you already bought the roll of gaffa-tape to stop the dome port rotating?

  3. Hi Nige

I agree! Drop an email to Carey at Seaoptics in Adelaide (!).

They have a nice line in chunky neoprene covers. I bought one for my DP-FE2 which is just the job. I doubt they cost much to mail to the UK from Aus.

The other Subal thing I love is the plastic rear cover for the ports. Once you have got that baby on the DP-FE2 it is a real joy to remove. Do they self-glue to the port? :D

I drilled a tiny hole through the rear port-cover. It makes all the difference to whether you can get it off later or not!

  5. Oh yeah!!!! Thanks John, great idea. :D

  6. Thanks for the replies and info Guys.

I'll Contact a Nexus / Sea & Sea stockist to see what they come up with.

There is also the option of having one custom made, O three or Bellair in Southend may do the honours.

Sea Optics in Adelade may also be an option if I have no luck at home.

JB....I have bought 3 rolls of Gaffer tape.... silver, White & black, so the lessons you taught me have actually sunk in.

  8. JB,

you ought to check your AF, if its working, then Spec savers could be worth a visit.

I'm out of focus and that really boring mask is sharp as a tick. B)

  9. Ryan (from wetpixel sponsor Reef Photo Video) makes a very nice neoprene cover. When I bought my Subal from him, he mentioned the bad Subal cover and suggested his neoprene cover. It is excellent.

I have managed to scource an Aquatica 8" neoprene cover from Cameras Underwater

You would think that Subal would sort out the accessories to go with what is an excellent piece of kit.
