I'll try another one

22 posts
  1. see if this one looks better

  2. hmmm...it's not working out. I'll just wait until someone can tell me how they usually resize their images before posting.

  3. You are not living up to your username are you?

If you have a large photo try resizing with some graphical software (photoshop/Paint Shop Pro etc). I usually resize to approx 700 pixels before attaching. I have also found that when you browse for the photo the file type has to be set to *.gif, *.jpg etc.

  4. Dear Not-Paste,

    If your using PS?!

DO NOT SAVE IMAGE AT REDUCED JPEG COMP UNTIL AFTER YOU HAVE RESIZED IT FIRST>>> This helps prevent artifacts.

After working on the image go to "IMAGE" go down the menu to IMAGE SIZE. A box will appear (The magic of computing) giving you the options to chose a size for the finished image. In the top box you will see pixel length & width. Here type in 600 pix as your longest or widest. go down to the bottom of the box and type in 100 dpi. This should give you a file size less than 800Kb. Click ok and go to save as pick title and folder & JPEG. When compression box appears save at around 50Kb.

  5. I'm at work so my access to software is limited. I'll have to change my username;)...

One more try, same pic...wait a minute, just saw this

Maximum file size (in bytes): 65536

    thats 65 k, that's why i couln't PASTE before....

Oh, well, the pictures are bound to look crappy when compressed so hard?

    Non-Paster

  6. I'll have to change my username

Boy, you've dug a hole on this one!! How about 'Spread' you won't get as much stick then........well maybe not!!!

The heavy compression is needed or I'd imagine the server would blow a gasket. A fair price to pay in order to share everyone's images, I am sure you would agree.

  7. You can also put your pictures on another server and put only the direct link to the pics here using the 'IMG' button on the messages editor.

Just check that the host server enable you to make a direct link to the pictures (PBase for instance doesn’t)

  8. The problem with linking a string or one large image via the server is it takes eons to down load and the rules of this forum stipulate just one image per thread.

My biggest image on the site is just 64 Kb - The 100 dpi 600 pixel longest measurement works well and downloads quite quickly. This gives more than adequate appeal to the images for critique or members pix.

If you reduce the image size first then compress you lose very little.

  9. Here's one, I think it looks crap. Still, any critique is welcome, but it looks kind of lego-like.

  10. A bit of cutting & editing & you get something a bit better.

Remember this took a few secs. Have patience, spend time on it & make sure you zoom well in on any editing such as cloning.

  11. I keep doing that. Sorry here's the pic.

  12. Apart from changing the colour balance you moved a piece of rock to behind the stingray?

  13. Yeah, just extended the existing coral to serve as a backdrop for the ray. All done with cloning. Only a idea. It would be possible to keep the existing scene & pick out the bluey sand & toning that down a bit.

Thats the beauty of manipulation. Use it how you see it works best. It's not everybodys cup of tea i.e. ethical & all that, but it does allow you to produce a more presentable photo as oppose to scrapping it.

Its also 'eco-friendly'. "manipulation not man-handling".

  14. Mark,

can you add there also a mermaid? :)

  15. Alto,

    Just for you.

  16. Then again could always get in on the act myself!!

  17. Would have cropped it a little bit tighter - as the ray is the point of the image and with the photographer tending to use the eyes as the centre (A common phenomenon) the best option is as below.

  18. The problem with linking a string or one large image via the server is it takes eons to down load and the rules of this forum stipulate just one image per thread.

I would prefer multiple-image posts to go on in the member forum area -- a "show off" area without the imminent threat of harsh critiques. If you post here... people should be 100% honest. :)

Also, with regard to linking vs. uploading -- I MUCH PREFER LINKING, as uploading takes up server resources and bandwidth, and will eventually be a problem as we grow in size. :(

  19. Ah, I think this is where I have become confused... The strings are redirected from the server and not stored on Wetpixel.

    Appologies!

    Bob

  20. With the mermaid and the diver, this is one big ray. Blue spotted manta ray. Sensational new discovery.

I'm not sure i quite understand what you mean, echeng, should I note have posted the pics here? It was my wish to recieve critique, not to show off. Since I'm a beginner, I don't feel I am that sensitive.

When I come back from my next trip though, I'll do some showing off, so I'm grateful for any non-sadistical critique now, so I have a chance to improve.
