Salem Express Wreck

14 posts
  1. Built in 1976 and firstly named "Fred Scamaroni", the Salem Express sank on December 15 1991 afer hitting Hyndman Reef off Safaga in the Egyptian Red Sea. Crowded with passengers returning from Mecca, only 180 survived and the number of dead people ranges between 500 up to 1500... Needless to say, we didn´t enter the wreck as it´s supposed to be treated as the grave it is.

  5. Hi David,

I love the moody feel you've acheived with these pictures. I'll nominate them as some of my most favourite in a long time.

I'm assuming they are all with your new D200/Hugy setup.

What exposure are you using on the background to hold such great highlight detail in the sun? Is it -0.7 or more? Are you doing much RAW processing to bring out shadow detail, or are these close to what you saw on the LCD? Thanks for your help mate.

  6. Nice pictures - like the blues - hope you paid your buddy a load of beer for posing for you !

And is she available for my next trip ?

Thank you Paul!...as for the model we go on a kit so I guess paying for the trip should do it!!! :guiness:

Gracias Buzo!!! I also think it´s the best one

  10. Impressive collection of this wreck.

As is already mentioned, good modeling work.

  11. Great shots. In agreement with others, I reallly really like the propellor.

Personally, I find the model shots with the diver small in the frame (as in the prop shot) a bit too classic "CMAS wide angle with diver"/European Fotosub style. Not necessarily a bad thing. And in this case I think it works very well with the subject matter.

In general I prefer it where the model is a little closer to the lens, and you can see a bit of the person. Rather than as a silhouette with a torch. But I accept that is just personal taste, and I also think that the best is to vary it, as you have done.

In the end, I must reiterate, great shots, David.

  12. As is already mentioned, good modeling work.

Thank you very much Arnon! she is very good at diving (she has three times more dives than I do... :guiness: )

Thank you Alex! I think the same. For some reason I used the 10.5mm but I was used to keep a distance from the model that with my previous WA of course looked closer :guiness: I have some pics from the Numidia wreck where you can barely distinguish her...

  14. Makes me want to go wreck diving .. i'd take photos if there were any good ones around here .. maybe i should go diving in the sister islands for a weekend and get the Destroyer done.

I too love the propeller .. being a boaty person I love propellers .. that particular one looks like a low profile racing slick !

Out of interest the disney cruise ship Magic has similar props.
