  1. so what differences between the D200 and the D80?

    other than the $600-700 USD.

  2. Build quality and speed are two significant differences.

  3. Digital Photography Review have a "Hands On" Preview available online now...

  4. Sorry boys,

    It's my fault. I knew I shouldn't have bought the D200.

I'll let you know when I buy a new Mac so you can hold off for the newer model.

  5. Here is why...

    Size compare in next post...

I don't think this is a good comparisement of the rear, because the D80 is smaller than the D70. In the .gif they are equal in size. I haven't seen a good size compare of the back yet.

  6. Yeah, fair call Kees... it was a rush job the other day. But I'd still be very surprised if the buttons lined up on a D70 housing. It would be great if they did, but given the size differences and the alternative button/dial arrangement, it just doesn't look like it will work to me. Happy to be proven wrong though.

  7. you would not be happy Anthony.... you are working against me at every step.. i can follow your posts you know!

  8. Is there some sort of S**t scared emoticon??

    I'm a quakin' Mikey.

  9. Got that crowbar hidden behind your back don't you - I know you!!

  10. To my eyes the D80 looks very similar in size to the D50. I know that there aren't loads of D50 housing options available - Ike and Sea&Sea being the main ones.

But I would think that this camera might fit in a D50 housing?

Check out the images below - borrowed from the excellent reviews on DPReview - which show that the physical dimensions are almost identical.

It still only has one command dial, though!

    sod that then..

    I'm sticking with my d70s

bah... Mustard is messin with me... the 80 has two.... the 50 has one...

  12. Sorry I am completely wrong about that, Mike. I was looking at the pic of the D50! Duuuh.

The D80 have 2 command dials - which also means it won't be controllable from existing D50 housings - there goes another theory!

  13. I'll get it to fit into my nexus housing, shoot, it is smaller than d70..it's gota fit.. damn, this thing is so advanced who needs all them buttons to line up anyway! Just need shutter release and set to Auto U/W mode, right? Or, am I missing something?

  14. I don't think current D200 owners need to mope about this, unless of course they were thinking of selling up! You've got a camera that is broadly speaking the equal of the D80 (albeit faster and of superior build quality), and you won't have to wait ages for body/housing availability.

The current crop of 8-10 megapixel SLRs deliver more than most of us need. I work for a diving magazine, and I know a horizontal D200 image will crop to a cover shot. As for competitions, the file size and overall quality will keep these cameras at the forefront for a good few years. So my advice is not to worry, but to keep an eye out for the big breakthroughs that signal radical new opportunities in underwater imaging.

Speaking of which, would it be poor form to house an endoscope to take a photo of a pearlfish? B)

  15. Are you an underwater proctologist?

  16. Hi, so finally the Nikon guys have another reason to switch camera models. I wonder what will happen to me as a Canon user. I bet Photokina in Germany will tell us. Also IFA in Berlin is ahead. We will post you with news.

We have put some info on DIGIDEEP.com, too:

    http://www.digideep.com/english/info/html/...80-dsrl-camera/

The product page will be filled with more manufacturers, as we ring them down today:

    http://www.digideep.com/english/digital/ph...kon/D80/25/2567

Please have a little patience for the compatability chart.

  17. If the D80 fits the D50 housing, can Ike add a second command dial lever in the D50 housing by request? If so, it could be an upgrade option for D50 owners...

it looks like the current d70 housings are the best candidates.
