I was thinking of lying the housing flat - the Seacam is only 13 cm deep!
I noted the Omni Trekker (next one up from the Pro) has the back pack straps Eric was referring to on the Moose bag - and it's even closer to the max limits defined by the new baggage sizes, so you can squeeze every last cm out of the limits.
I'll give it a few weeks to see what happens, then I think I'll get one of these.

I have never taken my housing in the cabin.
If I have to go to Bali on saturday with a laptop bag instead of a camera bag, I can still get laptop, camera and several lenses in there. Rest will have to go in the hold.

p.s. my girlfriend is flying from London tomorrow - so I'll report what she finds.
I've always tried to carry both housing and camera - simply because the housing has been the single most expensive item, even in pre digital days. That said I've always carried lenses as well - and I think that lenses and the camera bodies are less likely to be happy in the hold than the housings themselves, so maybe a rethink is needed on my part.
there again, strobes are probably the most fragile of all the gear, and the only time I had one damaged is when I dropped my hand baggage - never had a problem with checking them in
