  1. For those who have used the Cressi Big eyes mask and the Atomic frameless mask, how do the two compare?

I have a Cressi Big eyes mask which until recently I had felt was the cat's pajamas, but after reading some of the rave reviews of the Atomic mask.....

I have to wonder if it's better........ :)

  2. HI ALL,

I have also got a Cressi Penta mask which is a very good mask but it not

in the same league as my new Atomic mask which is exellent , expensive though

but well worth the cost :);)

  3. i love my scubapro frameless, i actuall have 3 pairs jic.

  4. My Aqualung rep was in today, he had their newest-latest-and-greatest. Darn it if I can't remember what they called it, but it's VERY similar to the atomic subframe, which I don't feel is very different from my atomic frameless. I thought that the frameless had a great strap system. I do think the new Aqualung's is better.

Dang, I'm going to have to call em and see what they were going to call it. It's available in November...

  5. I feel obliged to say that everything Atomic makes seems to be made up to a standard rather than down to a price.

  6. I used the Cressi big eye, it hurt under my nose after only 35 minutes, my friend gave his up as he had the same problem. This new atomic mask has some slick new silicon compound which definately feels softer on your face, so much so you don't know you've got a mask on! As for scubapro frameless, tried that too, fairly big volume and again no where near as comfortable as this new Atomic.

So please help - if anyone is on there way over here to Indonesia and pick one of these up for me, please drop me a line. I am very keen to get one of them! Now I know how good this thing is my old Look mask from Technisub seems to be really bad in camparison!

  7. The bad part of living in paradise is that we can't buy online and have our latest purchase sent to us in Indonesia, I'd love to be able to go shopping online, but simply can't!

  8. Has anyone tried Atomic's other low profile mask - the Subframe? How does it compare to the frameless?

  9. Has anyone tried Atomic's other low profile mask - the Subframe? How does it compare to the frameless?

Yes, I have. It is a smidge wider in fit. It also has slightly better downward visibility.

I went with the mask that fit me best, the frameless. If I hadn't been spoiled with the frameless (fit wise), I would have been estatic with the subframe.

    All the best, James

  10. Used mine today. Worked great. Maybe better than my Scubapro frameless of which I have two.

  11. Well, I couldn't get an Atomic over here in Indonesia, so I just went out and found a really cool mask. I put it in on the shop and it fitted like the Atomic, really soft skirt, mega low volume, it actually feels like it was made for my face.

Then the girl in the shop say "this is a kids mask", oh well, it fits so I'm gonna take it and give it a try! It's only $35 or so...

The mask is a Technisub Marina. I will give it a full test out and try my best to put a report up on here about it as soon as I get from my little critter cruise to northern Sumbawa, we may actually have to head into south Komodo as the weather seems to be a bit sloppy up north at the moment!

  12. I tried the Atomic recently while I was waiting for the arrival of yet another Cressi Matrix. The atomic is nice, has soft silicone...but imho nothing still beats the lovely soft Cressi Matrix :D ... and I have a THING for masks...sort of like what other girls have for shoes... when I see the new models in the divestore I can hear them calling to me ... touch me, try me, take me diving... so I have amassed a shamelessly large collection of masks over the last 10 years. I have gone tru a few of the Cressi Matrixes, not because they have wore out, but because they seem to grow legs whenever you turn your back on them for a second. HAs similar field of view as the Cressi BigEye, but I don't like the BigEyes, the silicone on that one is way too hard. Volume of Matrix is lower and the Matrix has a really nice "slant" which helps with the field of view. The silicone on the Atomic and Cressy Matrix feels very similar, but the field of view appears better on the Matrix. Can't really tell any difference in the "clarity" of the glass, both is good. Of course, this is a very subjective topic... different head shapes, different fit. Mine just happens to be small and round :D

  13. I used the Cressi Big Eye and found the Silicon to really hurt under my nose. I now ahve an Atomic on the way. Thanks!

  14. Graham, I had the same problem with the big eye's but the Matrix is heaps better IMHO, the silicon is softer and it doesn't bother my nose at all.

    Regards

    Gary

  15. The best mask is the one that fits you. For me those are the Dacor Nautilus, the Scubapro Framless, and now the atomic frameless. I had given up trying masks on every time I went into a dive shop until I tried on the atomic framless. Pushed that thing on my face without the strap on and walked around the shop for 15 minutes without it losing. Can't say it's better than the Scubapro but would have to say as good.

I just returned from ten-night trip using the Atomic mask. Though I liked my Big Eyes, it has been subsequently retired.... <_<

  17. I have heard great things .. just haven't had my hands on one yet

I noticed the link Giles referenced was dead these days, but I found the blog entry still archived at: http://scubadiving.com/underwaterinsidered...g/?nPostId=3568

Never mind. Link is screwed up again. I give up.

I've been using this Atomic mask since early summer, and remain very fond of it. I found the quality & clarity of the glass noticably significant.

  18. Well,

With great thanks to Eric Cheng, I've now got myself one of these Atomic masks. It seems to be working fine for me, I find the skirt the most comfortable I have ever used. I find that if a mask still feels OK after after a 2 hour dive then it has to be a good one!

At the end of the day, it is which mask fits your face!

  19. I just got the Atomic Frameless myself and the mask is great.

Before I used the Scubapro Frameless 2 which has a good fit but the place where the mask buckles tend to get out of the mask. It happened to me too many times so I found it was time to change mask. I tried the Oceanic Shadow and although it has a nice low profile and it fit well out of the water, in the water it was slightly leaking water.
