We took (and always do) all the photo equipment in hand luggage as I have been pretty unfortunate with late or no arrivals of checked baggage. This includes:
D200, 10.5, 16, 17-70, 60, 105, 2x, 4T, (18-200 for topside)
Hugy housing, flat port, 35mm ext ring, dome port (this two ports cover all lenses above)
2xsubtronic nova
6 arms (12,8 and 5) + 6 clamps
2xflash cords
Small laptop
Chargers
Small stuff....
The laptop goes in its small shoulder bag with some chargers, small stuff, empty DVDs, toothbrush and a swimsuit. This does not count as a hand baggage. I also carry the camera with the 18-200 with me. Then I have a light trolley (generic brand name) where I put the housing full of clamps, both strobes and arms. I use three or four T-shirts around the housing/strobes as protection. On another trolley we put all the lenses and ports plus three regulators more tshirts etc... the trolleys´ weight was 14 and 10 kgs... but then our checked luggage was very light (15kg each) and that helps because they weigh the big ones first and make up their mind that you don´t have excess weight. The trolleys are small in size and they don´t even look at them.
We flew last month Canary Islands-Barcelona-Singapur-Cebu then Tagbilaran-Manila-Palau-Manila-Singapur-Barcelona-Canary Islands with no problem.
I think checking luggage is very risky in multistage trip (I was 15 days in a liveaboard in Indonesia with only a Tshirt and swimsuit....but at least I could take pictures!)
