You're welcome Darren - the RAW converter is Photoshop...
Claude
It will be interesting to see if there is any difference when PS fully supports the S5 RAW files, or if the fuji software does a better job. But it will have to be a huge difference....
The Mediterranean has sea fans? Looks like nice reef!
A good comparison, thank you for taking the time to do it.

so do I... I've contacted Fuji to have a demo version... but no answer yet !

for sure : a lot ! Red/Orange/Yellow/White... there are some amazing dive sites here (including a lot of wrecks because of the 2nd World War)!
Great test, Claude!
Could you check if a D200 battery works in the S5?
Thank you!
Thanks for posting these Claude....very helpful. My enthusiasm for the Fuji S5 is somewhat tempered by your comparison but I think I'll wait to see more before I make up my mind.
From your your tests it looks like the sunbursts you got with the S5 are SLIGHTLY better than the D200. There appears to be a little more gradation with the S5 however it would impossible to say definitively unless the exact same shot was taken at the very same instant by both cameras.

Fuji's recommending to use only Fuji accessories... and, sorry but, I don't want to do the test it on my friend's S5
> I know somebody who tried: it doesn't work!

ok... next time I will try to put both cameras together to press on the shutter button at the same moment !
Tres concluant, very conclusive. wedding photography being after passport photography in my line of favorite activities, I will make my decision very carefully as to yes or no, stupid as it may seem, the fact that you cant swap battery is a major downer for me. I have enough nick nack on a trip to carry even with out this little irritant.
Some more encouraging news for potential S5 users.
Dr Bob has posted on the digi diver forums saying that he thinks the camera is much better than the D200 for sunbursts. He hasn't posted any back to back tests, but he has used the D200 a lot, so is probably a decent judge.

Yes Alex but to say it in the best way I can - so not to start any bru-ha-ha, I'd take any of his advice with a lot of skepticism and ? his motives.
I'd much rather listen to Claude!!!! (He rocks!!)........ B)
And I think the Fuji S5 will be good u/w, possibly better than the d200 especially for the shallow water stuff I do with lots of "sky" in it. I'll keep an eye on the RAW converters for the Fuji raw files, etc. too before I get it. (But I'm also looking into loading a better curve profile in my d200).
Anyway I'll need to get a backup/topside DSLR at some point and it will probably be the S5.
Best, Carol
I think in order to entirely get rid of the sunburst problem it needs something doing HDR pictures right out of the camera, meaning a lot of f-stops. I believe the Fuji has a noticeable advantage in dynamic range making sense for a lot of applications. But not is such a huge way to deal visibly better with sunburst. Although it might be interesting to see if you can pull out more details out of the shadows instead of evaluating margin against highlight clipping only.
I would love to have a backup to my 5D with fewer megapixels but more dynamic range. Would be very tempting to me.
