The 20mm is the one I use

Initially I was suggesting EXR20, but apparently it vignettes with some cameras at 10mm (not mine)... So now we suggest EXR15, and if anyone's 20 vignettes we exchange it.

Thanks Ryan,
Is there a specific zoom gear made for this lens or is it a matter of using one for another lens?
Subal has just started to offer one, - 4ZNT05.
Hello,
Subal's advice is the 20mm extension ring:
I use the 15mm ext ring.
Alex
I checked with Subal before as I'm looking for this lens.
Dear Mr. de Vos,
for this lens you need:
DP-FE2 plus EXR 20/3 plus Zoom gear 4ZNT05 (EUR 42,40 without VAT)
Best regards,

Hello,
now I'am confused ![]()
I have neither the 15mm or the 20mm to test but I have to choose one or another to buy. Help please ![]()
Hi All,
i'm not using a Subal housing but a Hugyfot, but Hugyfot also recommended me to use a 20 mm extensionring. Because i'm a little bit stubborn sometimes and measured that the Tokina is only 8mm longer then the 10.5 mm (8mm extension ring would sound more logic to me, but these do not exist) i didn't order it directly and tried the Tokina in the regular FE port (17 cm diameter) in the swimming pool without any extensionrings and guess what: the image was sharp from corner to corner... So i'd recommend to try things first before buying... For Cor, if you don't have acces to a swimming pool, feel free to visit our clubnight in Delft on thursdayevening and you can give it a try.
Below you can find some of the example images.
cheers, Udo

I used the 15mm ring with Tiger sharks and the results seem pretty good. Guess i have a 10.5 fisheye for sale soon ![]()

Hello,
today I have tested my Subal Fe2 Dome with Tokina 10-17 and Subal 20mm extension ring.
I have no good news: there is some black areas on the 4 corners of the photo (sorry for my english but I think it is what you call vigneting isn't it?)
Here it is the photo (today in the Madeira's Island, Atlantic Ocean, f/11, 1/30 at 10mm):
I use the 15mm ext ring.

Hello Alex,
guess you're right again
: the 15mm ext ring must be the right option.
I've trusted Subal's advice and bought them de 20mm. I guess now I've to send them the 20mm and wait for the 15mm... ![]()
I trust Ryan at Reef Photo (see sponsor here on the right), he also recommends the 15mm.

I second that.
Thanks for the vote of confidence, guys!
Initially I suggested the 20mm ring too, as it was what I used on my d200 system w/ NO vignetting.... Then some customers started to complain about a slight vignette, so I adjusted my suggestion to accommodate this. I'm not sure why I don't get the vignette (could be slight difference in shade position, or camera position?), but some clearly do.
If you bought an EXR20 for this lens from me, and you are getting vignetting, and you didn't get my email about an exchange:
1- I'm sorry!
2- Send it back and I'll exchange it for EXR15.
The 15mm ring is also very useful for adding chunky dioptres (e.g. Canon 500D, Nikon T series) and also 1.4 and 1.5x Teleconverters to extend ports for macro lenses.
The Subal FE2 shade has been through several generations (the main difference being the shade) and I would expect that this accounts for the differences in the slight vignetting with a 20mm ext ring.

I'm thinking about this lens but holding back because of this issue of what size port ring.
Are there any Sea & Sea housing users out there using this lens? I have a couple of friends using the lens with a DX-D200 housing + compact dome port and using no ring. They report no particular problems, but can't really tell if it's optimum either.
I believe the smallest ring Sea & Sea offer is the SX ring at around 19mm. Would this be too long?
Has anyone with the 10-17 in a subal noticed any reflections of the lens on the inside of the port with the 15mm ring, or any other ring for that matter.
I started to notice this on images I took in the bahamas and at first thought it was just a streak of grease or dirt that caught the light since it showed up so infrequently. I'm in the solomons now and one day under a school of barracuda I actually noticed it in the viewfinder as I was spinning around and the lighting angles were changing. I'll have to look at it more to see whether it's at only at a specific focal length, or the angle in relation to the sun, or some other reason.

Trevor,
I use a Canon 400D and the Athena (now S&S) optical glass dome. When I first got the Tokina, I did some quick bathtub tests and the image appeared to be OK without any extension. The lens does stick out into the dome somewhat and I took the suggestions from this forum to try the SX extension ring. Happy to say it's been working extremely well behind the SX ext + Athena dome, no vignetting, sharp corners, and close focus ability. My Canon 10-22mm lens has been retired to strictly topside use.
