D300 in Nexus D200 housing

  1. Hi,

I now have my D300 & converted Nexus D200 housing to accomodate

D300 by just changing the base plate. This base plate was made by local

machine shop & can be changed with single allen-wrench in 10 min.

All major function bottons/dials in front & top are working/are in-line with camera,

except 5 bottons in real as marked and lenses are contered. To me, difference is

on thickness & D300 is about 2mm thicker than D200 as shown on the base plate.

I like 'Live-View' function of camera(you can focus while you are watching LCD

and/or through LCD like p&s camera) and low noise on high ISO.

    Sam.

  2. Maybe is the angle, but in the front picture the lens seems to be not properly aligned to the center, this may not bother you with flat ports, but with dome ports and WA lens this could be an issue...

  3. Lens was alined to the center.

The lens shown in the picture is 105mm VR with focus gear to see

the gap around port hole and found it works fine which means my 10.5mm

is alined too. however, camera is seating 2mm backward & am not

sure how it is going to show with dome port.

  4. Sam,

Ahhh, you said you were going to do it and here it is prompt as usual.

I'm anxious to hear you experiences w/it underwater. The lower noise alone in available light is a clincher for me......

Also I wonder if Subal will come out with an additional back/tray? I know some have said probably not but I still think it would be something the differerent manufacturers could do to make many of their d200 housing owners happy. :)

Otherwise Subal is tightly fitted and I think even 2mm thickness difference would be a problem.

    We will see.

  5. Great work Sam

I hope it works well for you in water, could be a nice cheaper upgrade for Nexus users.

I must admit i am tempted by the D300 just from a size point of view. The smaller housing makes getting under macro subjects a lot easier than the D2x.

  6. Nice job Sam. If the Rear left buttons are just off, I wonder if you could do something similar to what I did with my S&S 350D to fit a 400D (similiar problem of buttons being further out due to a larger LCD). Could you work up some modified pads to put on the ends of the left button plungers so they reach?

  7. Pakman,

Yes, I am already in process of getting/making modified rubber shoes

for these buttons & think it is possible. I moved 4 rubber shoes

from left buttons to 'multi-selector'in right side.

    Re left buttons, it is for;

MENU - to change Quality(Size of pics), WH & ISO etc but, it also, can be done through top control

PROTECT - No use in water

Thumbnail/Zoom out - Just for review- Not much use in water

Zoom in - Just for review - Not much use in water

O.K. - Not much use in water

and I do not miss it much. I can review/playback pictures with 'playback' knob.

  8. Fantastic!

Now, I don't have any engineering skills to speak of: is there anyone out there who wants to make some money by selling this wonderful piece of engineering (to me, obviously, but also to all the Nexu-philes out here)?

My typical bodging is not up to machining of this standard; this is my attempt to strengthen the top shoe:

I am also interested in this. I would really like to upgrade to a 300 and keeping my old house

  10. Sam,

Sensational work. I am interested in how it goes ungerwater. I have the D200 and nexus housing and looking into upgrading to the D300. If this works this could make the change happen alot quicker.

Would you be interested in making some others for other people ?

  11. Hi,

I am going to test it underwater next week but, I do not have plan

to make it for others. Sorry.

    Sam

  12. Sam,

Is it possible to us a provide a sketch or plan of the frame size and dimensions of holes etc so we can organise a machinest then to mill up.

    regards

    Sam

ha!... yours looks a lot more professional than my DIY buttons!:):)

glad you got everything working. I reckon you'll be getting a lot of PM's from Nexus D200 housing owners :)

  15. hey pakman edit sorry I mean Sam, you must be very happy :D .

Just confirming you only needed a new base-plate plus the shoes to reposition the buttons on the LHS at rear.

Otherwise all controls match, and your lens gears mesh, correct?

    cheers

  16. Darren,

I confirm here that all you need is new base plate + shoes and EVERYTHINGELSE matches & lens was excatly centered.

I just used Sam's conversion kit for the d300 with my subal d200 housing and it worked fine.

I only used the 12-24mm lense, sample photo.

    thanks,

I hope that you are logging into Wetpixel. I have been trying to send you a PM regarding your Subal ND20/D300 kit but your mailbox seems to be full and my message is bouncing back.

    Please PM me : markwebster@photec.co.uk

    Cheers,
