Hi Joey,
Someone 'stateside' has been manicuring them into the Ike housing...
I think that it might have been Backscatter? Anyway, I remember that it was a full custom job.
The pics for it were somewhere here on the forum; might pay to have a look?
Talk to Dave and the boys at backscatter.com and see what they say.
Bruce...

$900 installed ![]()
Much Cheaper on www.divervision.com

do they install it?

Does the kit sold by Divervision mount THROUGH the housing? The install done by Backscatter puts the finder THROUGH the housing so that the eyepoint of the finder is in the right place. Mounting it on the outside of the housing via a clamp and having to look through the original housing finder is not as good.
Is Divervision even in the USA??? That makes a difference to us folks stateside - we can pay in $$$ which is important right now.
Regards,
James
They are in Taiwan as far as I know. People have written reports in Scubaboard and this forum that they are reliable. They post using insured EMS service.
I just checked their site. they have the viewfinder for the Inon X-2, Patima and Sea & Sea Housings only. They mention that modification is required for the Patima housings, but not for the Sea & Sea housings. They said they would get back to me regarding my question whether it will fit the new D300 housing and if I can install myself. $699 is a lot cheaper than $900. Sorry, no info on Ike housings. Not on Inon's website either (they mention Nexus and other housing brands). I would email an inquiry if I were you.

It will probably be the same company as fun-in, just a different website, i think. If it is he's a nice guy who runs and is very helpful to me on short notice in Asia.
For the Ike housing though, you'll have to get it drilled/machined for proper fit, i would think.

Yes I believe you must get it machined and drilled .To much $ for me

Yeah.....kinda insane to spend this much on a viewfinder I suppose.....

yep had some good experience with him. He's currently going to test out the Inon viewfinder on a batch of S&S 1dIII, D300, & 40D housing that arrived.
Just noticed this post. I have been using a 45 degree finder on an Ike housing. It is essentially identical to the Inon finder but is sold by a company in France called PlongImage (they say they developed it with Inon). It clamps onto the back of the Ike eyepiece very nicely and it is designed to do so (ie, optics have been optimized for this, NOT for mounting through the housing or in any way replacing the built-in Ike finder). I just spent 3 weeks diving with this rig on an IKE 40D housing in PNG and was VERY happy with it. The view is great and it's easy to take on and off. It lists for 590 Euro. For me it was worth every penny.
I could send some photos but I am traveling and the internet here is too slow. Check this site: http://www.plongimage.com/product_info.php...roducts_id=1081

EURO 590! ![]()
It is an Inon 45 deg. but the clamp is made by another company. It works but just sticks out too much.
I tried something like that from a friend. The connector clamps onto the eyepiece ring. It is like a weight hanging off a ledge so I decided to tried another method that could be closer to the camera eyepiece and have the image bigger and fixed to the housing body.

Yep. Lots of Euros but pretty similar to the price for the standard Inon finder alone. It does stick out further from the back of the housing than one that is machined into the housing but it worked great for me.

Yup Pakman. He has emailed me to tell me that he is going to test the viewfinder mount and do pressure testing too with a Sea & Sea D300 that I want to get...

Great, do keep us posted if he is successful with slapping one on the S&S MDX housings.
It fits! Woo Hoo!
I also found out that Divervision and Fun-In are not the same owner although both are based in Taiwan.
