HC7 disappointing colour

  1. Help! Ive just got an HC7, Ive been filming with it here in the Caribbean for a couple of months now and I like the quality of the images but the colour is really odd, really green, not as good as the colur from less good quality camers Ive seen.. I dont know if its the integrated filter in my Gates housing as I dont have the MWB botton fitted on the housing yet, or if it just performs badly in low light.. the reds are fine but I find it doesnt bring out much yellow and the overall image is greenish rather than clear. Its Ok for work, sdelling videos from the dive shops but whenever I get a really good shot I wish it were better... I want to go somewhere amazing agin soon to film for me and to hopefully get something worth selling.. what would you advise?? Buy a new camera? Just get teh MWB button fitted on the housing and hope for the best?.. Otrgherwise I love the camera/ find the housing really comfy to use...Thanks.. Oh/ is there anywhere on this site for newbies like me who want to find out all about hows/ whys of shutter speed lux etc because I dont always understand what the proper pros are talking about and I want to be that good too!!! Thanks !!

  2. Not sure much about that exact camera - but for sure your main issue is the manual white balancing. Get that button fitted on the housing and set your white balance before every shot. Some will say you don't need to change the white balance if you're at the same depth, but I think it's a good habit to get into from the start, as many of the elements are constantly changing.

Do some searches here in the video forum. There's lots of helpful advice and plenty to learn from. You'll probably do better with responses if you ask something specific you are wanting to understand.

    Get that MWB button.

  3. Don't swap your rig. It's a classic. Get the MWB button fitted. It will make a HUGE difference.

  4. It would also help if you post a sample of your problem. A jpg grab would be more helpful. Esp since you don't say what WB setting you are using if not manual. Daylight? Fluorescent?

In order for us to help you, we need more information.

  6. The HC7 with AWB is just horrible. With MWB however it is a different camera. Like others have said you need to get MWB fitted ASAP - you really, really do need it and you are going to be amazed at the difference in the quality of your images.

  7. hi,

been a while since i was in here. well got a new familymember so i've stayed dry for 1.5 years so the misses could go play in the water again. but now i'm back.

i just got the hc7 w. ikelite housing. and am having problem setting the wb. it works fine down to about 10 meters then its like it wont set... gonna try whit the filter tomorrow, just got it figured out so it will stay on the wc-10 lens.

there might be some trick to setting the wb if anyone knows of some please let me know.

if i figure some out i'll drop a line.

quite happy whit the low lite on the camera. been inside caves and some wrecks and it acually turned out ok.

    bye for now.
