D2x/Seacam - Which Nikon Fisheye to choose?

  1. Yeah, but you still have to crop the image a bit - which kind of defeats the object of FX!

Not necessarily, in my example above in post #2 I cropped the FE shot to be more panorama-like. When the D3X comes out there will be even greater scope for cropping (more pixels than D2X or D3) given a sharp image to work with.

  2. Alex and Tom,

I did remember this review by Eric - but then realized he had Don Kehoe use the Tokina 10-17 on the 1.3X crop newer Canon 1D (I don't know much about Canon so those number models confuse me...) Anyway in case anyone missed it the Tokina vignetted even on that setup but only at 10mm-12mm and possibly just because of the 7.3" S & S dome.

Again, forgive me if I'm in error. I originally thought I remembered they were testing the Tokina out on the FF Canon 1Ds, but it was the 1.3X crop one instead and they still got some vignetting - I have no idea what would happen with the FF and I don't think Eric attached the Tokina to it as all I saw him use was the 20mm non-FE on the 1Ds FF - here is the link to that page of the review (and fun manatees..... :-)......)....

    Thanks for the link!

Looks like FL ≥ 13mm covered the 1.3 crop factor.

This lens appears to be physically a bit longer than the 10.5 so it would poke into a FE port a bit more possibly enabling > 180 degree coverage like with the 10.5 (on a D3). I suspect that an FE port rather than a SD would be better. I wonder if the shade can be as easily removed as the 10.5? :P

  3. Hi Guys, thanks for your help! He has choosen to buy the Tokina and is really happy with that lens - both on land and under water.

Here is one picture he shot last weekend, when we tested our new gear (his new Tokina with Nikon D2x and me testing new Seaflash strobes with Canon EOS 5D).
