  1. Hi All,

I now have all my gear as below. What do i put it in while I am traveling and on the boat etc. I would like something that holds all the gear in foam etc..

    Cheers

    Needs to hold....

    Ikelite Housing (D300)

    2 x DS-125 Strobes and Arms

    1 x 8" Port and Extensions

    2 x Flat Ports

    couple of lenses (2-3)

    Spare Gear (orings etc, tools)

    Chargers etc (Strobe and Camera)

  2. alot of people use pelican cases. My personal opinion is to get a case with the padded dividers and store your gear inside large ziplocks to keep the fuzzies out of your rig. The pickand pluck foam is only useful if you plan on sticking with one rig for the rest of your life as it isnt easily reversed once its been picked at. My personal case is a 1650, but I also have a 1550 and a 1700 for smaller gear takealongs

There are a lot of cases to use, weight is the issue. I have an Ikelite housing for my Olympus 8080 which is a little smaller than for the D300, twin DS125's and assosciated cables, with battery packs and chargers. For carry on for flying I actually use a Porter case for my work. It fits in the overhead compartment of the airlines and the handle flips up so you can use the case for hauling other luggage. It can handle up to 200 lbs. ( approx. 90 Kg) and doesn't screech "camera". I keep the domes separate from the other items so as not to scratch them. The only drawback is I always get pulled off the check in at the gates to open and inspect, but at least ATA doesn't get the goodies.

  4. Check out this cool bag. I saw one recently, and looked nice. Not cheap tho.

I have this bag and use it for my Ikelite setup. I can get in the housing, flat ports, arms, lenses, 1 DS-125, etc. Pretty much everything I need except a dome port and second strobe. Very high quality and worth the bucks.
