I think you have to be careful suggesting that soft corners is a full frame problem. It's more related to specific lens/dome combinations and the resolution capability of the system. For D700/D3 the resolution is the same as the D300, not greater. If Tokina introduced a full frame version of the 10-17 I wouldn't assume it had softer corners than today's DX solution. The two systems will use different wide angle lenses with different characteristics but what works better can change quickly.
Nevertheless, I agree that FF at 12MP will have very selective appeal over the D300.
Yes, of course. That is why I even used caps to say "to me".
It is true that what works better can change quickly but all my opinions are based in today´s nikon products and experiences such as housing the 14-24, the unspread focus points of the D700 and the shorter DOF of FF in macro. If tokina introduced a full frame version of the 10-17 I think it would work well, as fisheyes do not seem to be as affected by corner sharpness as rectilinear lenses.
I finally have been able to house the D300 (will try to do a review on the Hugy) and I think Alex is perfectly right: why didn´t nikon preserve the group AF mode? I have very few hopes that it will be fixed with a firmware update (but I really wish they did).
Well I have to admit I had not investigated in full the AF settings on the D300 ... as, in fact, it has something like that:
AF dynamic area mode lets you choose a focus area of 9, 21 or 51 focus points and move it as you feel like it. The main difference is that you cannot choose if you "want closest subject in the area" focus or "centered subject in the area" focus.
This video explains it very well: skip the presentation, click on Movies, choose AF AREA MODE:

Thanks; I just looked at that video. It appears that 51 point 3D tracking will be most useful underwater. What do you use?
Thom Hogan said today that he doesn't think Nikon will make a D3x at all! At least not a Sony 24mpix D3x. Pretty interesting statement.
I just ran into an update on this. Seems that those D3 housings are gonna be useful after all:
When I'm wrong I'm happy to admit it. On some Internet forums I posted that I thought the high resolution FX body might be in the D700-sized body. Apparently not. I received a message out of Japan that the high-resolution camera is in the D3 body. I trust that message more than my guess, though please note that having one (usually good) source does not mean something is verified. A few f/1.4 primes apparently will appear with that body. It seems that a D80 replacement should also be in that set of announcements, which should come just before Photokina. Note that even three or four primes would put Nikon well over their usual yearly lens quota. On the other hand, every one of the next batch of lenses I hear about seem to be just G, AF-S, and/or VR iterations of existing designs, so maybe that's freed some design space and has Nikon executing faster. Whatever the case, it appears that all of you with NAS will have some more fuel for you addictions soon.
Alex
I have read (more rumours) that the new lenses are 24, 35, 50 and 85 mm all FX, 1.4 and AF-S...

I don´t know the camera very well at all but I will start with S mode (for some reason I trust S more than C because sometimes C defocus just when I press the shutter) AF dynamic area with 9 or 21 points (as I like to define well the area of focus, and far away points do not seem to help much in my opinion)
