Focus light, Fisheye or Hartenberger?

  1. The Nano sounds like a better option than the fisheye. It sounds more reliable. It should have had led light and longer burntime. but it looks like this is the best option on the market at the moment.

  2. Do you need such powerful illumination for spotting and focussing? I have found that low-power, relatively narrow-beam lights work for focussing in macro, and don't shoot W/A with lights, as the background is an important part of my W/A images.

LED lights seem to go for ever on AAs, and I have found them bright enough to use in caves and wrecks.

    :)

  3. I have FIX LED for 2 years and I'm incredibly happy with that. I tried few others before but they were not as good.

It has a very wide beam (and I don't use the diffuser). I used it without recharging batteries for 20dives (let's say 10-12 hrs of total burning time... and I could have used it more... but the holiday was over!). On max power I think it is too bright for a night dive. I use it at medium-low power and it is my main night torch as well.

Main reasons why I chose it: long burning time and wide, uniform beam.

  4. A very nice guy loaned me his FIX halogen light for a night dive. I was VERY IMPRESSED with the even, broad, adjustable illumination. Most of the dive I used it at the lowest or near lowest setting. Mounted just fine with the ULCS neck adaptor right over the lens port.

If I could find that for $200, preferably with AA batteries since I've already got LaCrosse chargers and 2700 maH NiMH, I'd be in.

  5. What I like about the FIX is the red diffuser for night dives. It's absolutely necessary for certain creatures. There's not much point to have a bright light if there's nothing to shoot. Too bad it won't fit for the 48DX LED version, which I like for the AA batteries which can be bought anywhere there is civilization.

  6. Too bad it won't fit for the 48DX LED version,

It fits mine Drew, it's the same shell and casing. Works great!

  7. I have no experience with the Nano, but have no problems with the Fixlight halogen. Maybe I'm lucky, but I very much like mine. Only wish it had longer battery life as I do savor my long dive times.

That's what I figured but I never bothered to try it because their literature says it's only for the HG20. Thanks for that.
