Lighting questions - ikelite ds 160

  1. well i'm back with more questions!

Assuming I were to go with an ikelite housing (still on the 5d with a wide and a macro lens I think)... and only going max 1meter under the water while snorkeling.

Would I need strobe or how much would it help? Would one strobe be enough or how much better would 2 strobes be? Does anyone have any examples?

  2. I think this comes down to your subject and location. If you are shooting a bright day in tropics then it's not too likely a flash will help, but if it's overcast and you want to highlight your subject a strobe can help a lot. As for two, It shouldn't be necessary, but (just as in a studio) more lights gives you more flexibility to fill in shadows and separate the subject and background.

  3. I use the Ikelite ttl slave sensor on my second strobe. I like it better than using two synch cords or one double. Seem to be less interference issues between the strobes and the camera. Also I agree with Ike that it seems more reliable than a double synch cord or two synch cords.

Remember that in shallow, brightly illuminated water, you will need a stronger strobe than you do in darker water.
