If Apple really wants the "Pro" in the name to mean something, they should look at their competition. Now that all the PC manufacturers are able to offer wide gamut notebook displays, it's time for Apple to invent it.
What's so hard to understand about wide gamut, quad core, and dual hard drive? Even Dell has figured it out. Meanwhile, we get "unibody" construction...
Well it does look nice but only a Core2Duo.
We had a hot day here yesterday so I had to drop the speed back on my QUAD from 3.2 to 2.4 ghz.
I was amazed at how slower it became with rendering.
Quads are the way to go.
Its disappointing that the new MacBooks are so expensive. What I want is a cheap low spec 1 kg in weight machine to take travelling and download photos and video and do email.
I think netbooks are the least likely market for Apple to enter so cheap, small, sub-1kg isn't coming. If that's what you want, there are existing netbooks that will run OSX if you are willing to do the install work. Problem with cheap and light is that there's isn't enough speed or disk capacity. You can get 2GB ram and 64GB flash upgrades for some netbooks but they will always have cheap displays and poor performance.
The Air is likely to be more viable now with the disk upgrades that are coming. It's still a disappointment with only 1 USB port and it's not cheap.
I just played with a new MacBook at the Applestore. It is very nice in terms of the decreased thickness and the design. Still not sure I like a glossy screen though.

I played with one last week and if it had a FW port it would have come home with me no questions asked. Like the Air, hands on really gives a better sense. Right now considering it anyway due to the size and weight drop and the fact that I can replace batteries and have a Superdrive in it (compared to the MacBook Air). The glossy does not bother me much for a travel computer, depending on the type of trip. For dive trips I like dumping as much weight as possible
Still not happy because I think it is only one bus for the USB ports, but having two does offer some solace in case something gets bent or messed up on one externally....
I finally saw them last night. Chassis is really nice, super stiff, and the trackpad is great. Screen reflections are horrendous. They should stop calling them "Pro" and start calling them "Poser".
I like the glossy screen. It is nearly impossible to do any real color work on a notebook screen, anyway (at least, I haven't been able to), and I'd like to be able to use my machine outside.
Notebook screens have traditionally had uneven backlighting, 6 bit color, and gamuts much smaller than sRGB. Those limitations are no longer a given. Color work may have been a crapshoot in the past but there's no reason why it must continue, especially for machines marketed for "pro" use. Once upon a time, notebooks weren't suitable for digital photography of any sort.
Im waiting a while with buying a new MBP. It looks like the new macbooks are seriously broken, at least in some cases. I need to hear first that this issue has been fixed.
