close ups with all black backround

  1. i was using an 18-55 with a backround behind it lol

  2. Make sure you dont have a background behind it, but a few feet (or more) of empty space. Also, which lens are you using? This all really is only valid for macro lenses, or really close up wide angle. You need to be pretty close to your subject.

You need more space behind your subject in air than U/W to avoid unwanted lighting of background, obvious really as water absorbs more light than air.

  3. Don't forget the ISO settings! For a black background, you want it as low as possible.

Distance to background helps as well.

  4. Thanks guys, im new here and immediately found answers to questions long pondered!!! I have always admired macro shots esp. those with black backgrounds and vivid sharp colours. Im off to the Philippines for a trip next week and will be trying all manner of techniques to perfect this on my compact ixus and stobe.

i may be back soon for more help

  5. Yep that is right, the G10 syncs at 1/2000, makes black backgrounds very easy.
