Coolpix 995 or Sony F707 underwater for a newbie?

11 posts
  1. Hello,

I'am have only shot with simple 35mm film cameras underwater and I own a Coolpix 995 camera which I was planning to dive with. I haven't bought yet the camera housing.

Recently I tried a frind's F707 which for me seems to be much easier to use than the Coolpix 995. and got very good shot very easily.

Things I'm concidering is that the F707 performs very well in low light situations, which here in Costa Rica we can have most of the time underwater and I might Thing that for a newbie underwater photographer will be easier to start with.

What can you recomend me? Do I stay with the C995 and put it underwarer or do I change my decision into a F707 underwater setup. Currently I know a friend who will buy me the C995

    thanks,

    Luis

  2. Hello there,

if you get along with the money I would certainly recommend to switch over to the SONY Camera. It is a newer model with a far better resolution! As there are 3 housings from different manufacturers you might be happy with it. The SONY housings are available from:

    - Ikelite #6111.07 = 950 US$

    - Hugyfot HFD-707 = 2.480 EURO

    - Amphibico Surveyor = 995 US$

If you want to house the Nikon, you can choose from 4 different housings:

    - Ikelite #6177 = 950US$

    - Aquatica = $$$ ???

    - Sealux = 1.333 EURO

    - UK-Germany = 1.355 EURO

An advantage here might be that you can choose from a big variety of strobes which utilize the NIKONOS TTL protocol and cords. But as many people here seem to be very a happy with the Ikelite or Sea&Sea digital strobes (I have not tried them yet) this might not be the main criteria anymore.

But finally the decission is yours :)

Anyway I hope that I could help a little.

    Regardz, Andi

  5. hy luis!

I forgot to take the additional costs for memory sticks into account, when deciding on the SONY. Take a look at this post in another thread to find out more about it...

  6. I got a couple of months ago the Aquatica 995 housing, which is great, I bought it for $849 us, I also bought their wide angle lens which is quite affordable.... :)

  7. Hy POPO,

it is a little offtopic, but are you really from Berlin, Germany?!?!

  8. Nope, i'm not from berlin, I don't know why it did that, it's not the first time it happens, I live in New York.
