whats a good lightweight dedicated macro setup?

6 posts
  1. I have a 5d mark II and a 5d. both with Ikelite housings. i think the 5d is too heavy for my wife to use. since she only likes to shoot macro, i'm thinking of trading the 5d for a point n shoot.

is there a small, lightweight, yet quality setup for macro? we liked the Nikonos V setup with one strobe, extension tubes and framers. although not light, it was easy to shoot really quality macros. can something like a G10 do macros well at, say, 6 inch working distance? with one DS51 or DS125 strobe?

other suggestions? i'd like to stick to ikelite only to share my cords and DS125 battery chargers. but i'm open to other suggestions too.

    thanks in advance

Go to the bottom of that thread and click on the link to the work by that author.

He uses a G9 in an OEM housing only, no external strobe. He does use wet lens additions and reflector for the strobe.

If you are looking for light, small, low cost - its hard to beat.

Also recognize the skill level of that individual. It might be difficult to match his work for most of us.

It would seem a G10 could be setup in a similar way.

  3. sea&sea Dx2g or Dx1g

with a inon strobe , i think the Dx2g and Dx1g use a Ricoh camera which has a wide lense that is quite sharp with short shutter lag , macro of 1cm and allows the addition of further wet lenses to get even better macro and give further working distance.

  4. A pair of stacked Inon macro lenses can turn nearly any halfway decent P&S camera into a macro powerhouse. :)

    Agreed!

    Its not unlike high school.

If its double stacked, it has to be good.
