Dome port for the G9 and Ikelite housing

  1. Could someone tell me whether its possible to get a dome port for my G9 ikelite housing?

I have read it may be possible if I had an Inon UWL-100 wide angle lens but I have the Epoque one, does anyone know if works with this or will I have to change my WA lens? Where would be the best place to buy this if its available for the G9?

    Cheers

    Woody

  2. Hi Paul,

The INON dome unit is specific to the UWL-100. IIRC, the Yen has weakend a nad so it may be worth getting a quote from Yuzo Kanda. If you wish to get one from a UK seller, talk to Ocean Optics who are the INON distributer. Cameras Underwater get them from Steve at Ocean Optics. You could also try Kevin at Aquaphot. Sometimes he works for very little beans and beats all others.

  3. Thanks Tim, I'll look into those contacts, I didnt realise Kevin could supply stuff like this :)

Does it fit on top of the WA lens or is it an actual port fitted to the hopusing?

ie can it be taken off underwater to exchange for a macro?

  4. I Will vouch for Kevin as well,

Every time ive rang him for a quote he has beaten Ocean Optics and Cameras Underwater ususally by quite a margin! I could fancy replacing my Canon housing for the Ikelite one but they dont ever seem to come up on ebay and I couldnt justify a new one! No WA glass for me :)

    Cheers,

    Mark

  5. Hmmmm...I've been contemplating "upgrading" to the G10, so you never know!

Main concern is there's no thread on the Ike G10 port for a macro lens...or has this changed lately?

  6. Woodster - I may be interested in your Ike G9 housing if you decide to upgrade :B): I notice you live in Gosport which is 10 mins away from me in Warsash!

Yea that would be cool! Sounds good, im desperate to get back in the water again after my holiday, which is most likely to be Swanage when I get round to it!

    Have a good one,

  9. I've got a original new dome to suit the G9/Ike combo - give me a PM if your interested.

  10. Peter.

    PM sent at the weekend.

Ikelite got back to me saying there's no plans for a port suitable to fit a macro lens to the G10 housing btw, apart from a universal swing type adapter.

  11. I have to say the G10 solution is very much a dog's dinner...

OK, in its favour is a 28mm lens rather than the G9's 35mm but frankly even the 28mm is neither use nor ornament u/w. W/A glass seems to be of indifferent quality, shows soft corners and has a limited angle of view and, apparently, macro glass is not an option...

Get a life and get a G9 and an Ike. Shove a UWL-100, dome and a short port on it or UCL glass and long port. There, sorted innet!

  12. hmmm...I'll see what Peter wants for his DP and go from there Tim, and also see what I can get for my DCL-20 (...anyone!?)

You dont have a piccie taken with and without the port do you Tim?

I asked Ikelite some more and got this response Perhaps you wanna contribute Tim :B):

I think you meant with or without the dome unit, not the "port". That being the case, no I don't. My dome unit is 'fitted and forgot' and I enjoy the additional 30 degrees (130 versus 100) it provides.

  14. Cheers Diggy :D will have a look at that!

Blimey Tim, I've just "done some calcs" 130 degrees gives me about 85% more FOV, would you say thats about right!? I didnt realise 15 deg either side would give me that much! ;)

......Diggy, I couldn't find anything on there to suit, or did I miss something?

  15. ;):D;):good::(^_^

    EUREKA!!! A fisheye with M67!!!!!

Thanks Diggy, do you have one of these?

Paul, I'm sure this glass has shown significant soft corners and Ryan at Reef still regards the UWL-100 and INON dome unit combo as superior. But I'd love to see some results with this lens.

  16. Tim,

Do you still have to zoom in slightly to avoid vignetting with the Inon lens set up?
