Spermwhale Ballet

Just a taste of the kind of action I am enjoying in Dominica. Last two days we have seen and interacted with at least 10 -15 different pods of sperm whales, and Scar the sperm whale supermodel has shown up both days to play. More to come, video as well.

Just for a little perspective. A shot of me taken by the infamous Peter Allinson; up close and personal with the eating end, followed by a couple of the shots I probably was taking at the time.

wow those must be somem of the most impressive images i have ever seen. the one of you next to the one lying vertically in the water does a great job of showing their immense size. i also love the one where one is mouthing the other. do you need special permits to dive with them. and who is the best dive group to go with. do they ever show signs of aggression towards divers. also with an animal that big how loud is their sonar. u must feel it reverberate through your whole body i would imagine. anyways awesome stuff.

I have been trying to decide where to go next summer for fall for diving. Was thinking red sea, dreaming of indonesia...but suddenly Dominica looks REALLY interesting.

So how does one get so close to these giants?
