Doesn't matter. They are resized for the screen. They are not printed in any way.

If you must have a dimension I would say 800 on the longest side

    Cheers,

    Mark.

  6. I have just amended the rules which may have put some potential submissions off.

Where before there was no time stipulation on the possibility of the MiDive Networks utilizing winning imagery as promotional efforts for future events. That duration has now been set at a 2 year limit from the date of prize giving of the festival; February 27th 2010.

We have also just received the announcement of a further amazing prize. Thus far the first prize was a week of liveaboard cage diving with the sharks of Isla Guadalupe courtesy of Shark Diver.

A prize to contest that in the form of one week of diving at the famous Beqa Lagoon in Fiji. As part of this itinerary it means that the prize winner for this trip will be making four 2 tank dives on the famous Fiji Shark Dive. This amazing prize has been offered by the folks at Beqa Adventure Divers.

For more details: Please check the website.

    Cheers.

  7. i must say i've checked out this thread a couple times, but always turn back when i click your website link and it asks you to sign up before anything. I honestly cannot think of a bigger deterrent to casual browsing of your site and the contest. You say "gee, i gotta give my email and maybe other info (i never actually clicked on 'sign up') to a site i know nothing about". i know it just makes me, and probably a lot of other people, hit back and move to something else.

not to be rude, but it just inherently turns me off, i don't know anything about your Shark Imaging Festival and the inherent distrust of giving information freely over the web, or running through a couple processing steps just to see the website.....

i have a friend finishing up a video about tiger sharks, including people riding them, and i have still photos of it too, but i'm hesitant to go teh extra step to find out the details of this contest. just thought i'd mention it. Cheers,

    Chris

  8. Hi Chris,

I fully understand and respect your decision. The sad fact is that seeing as the underlying tone of the site is shark conservation there are a lot of folks out there who want to see us trip over. We do have new members join every day, and have had folks signing up every day since launching back in October, many of them coming from this site too. Its down to your personal choice. Membership is hovering now around 610 members.

I think it is par for the course these days, this site included, insofar that you have to sign up for membership before you can take an active role in the Forums etc. Why would I look to give a couple of main prizes away, each a week of shark diving, one in Mexico and another in Fiji, to folks who intend to have zero input to the site? The site itself is a social network so requires membership.

We started out with an open membership policy but as any site owner will tell you, the porn, the swearing and the general trolling that went on were ludicrous, it almost crippled the site before it even got off the ground. I have now taken security measures to avoid that from happening again and in doing so protecting the privacy of our members.

This unfortunately transpires in some cases, such as this, that we may potentially be losing additional future members. This is something, for the sake of a harmonious environment, I am willing to accept.

    Regards,

    Mark.

  10. SUBMISSION DEADLINE

    Sunday 14th February, Midnight GMT

    2010 Shark Imaging Festival

Last chance to be in the running for some cracking prizes.

    Cheers,

    Mark.

  11. Mark,

The judges alone lend credibility to the contest; I hope you get lots of entries. I couldn't find anywhere in the rules exactly what the "Categories" for still photos were. It says numerous times that you can only submit one entry per category, but nowhere I could find said categories and/or descriptions of each.

  12. HI Bruce, i hope you aren't saying I am credible :drink:

The categories are a bit hard to find actually but you can find them on the announcement page for the Contest here: Main Page

Mark, perhaps can add them to the Rules and Regulations Page?

    The categories for stills are:

    Shark Portrait

    Shark Wide Angle

    Human Interaction

  13. Thanks for the suggestion Mike. Have made the changes.

:iving and learning, this is our first such event. Next years? Bring it on.

    Cheers,

    Mark.

  14. How do you define professional? %age of income? Not that i'd enter if Mike is a judge!

  15. The finalists for the imagery competition will be announced at GMT Midnight tonight which I believe is:

    7pm PMT,

    9pm CST

    10pm EST

Oh, and we've changed those ohh, so horrid settings so that everyone can access the news.

So I don't get slotted I'd like to shout out a big thanks to our subversive judges Mike 'Mad Dog' Veitch and Doug 'Hatchet Man' Sloss for their help in the selection of the photographic prize winners. A big up also to Joe 'the Kneecapper' Romeiro and Rodney 'the Razor' Fox for their help in selecting the finalist for the videography category. Make sure to get a ringside seat folks.

Announcement of the placings will be made on the iDive Sharks website.

    Cheers,

    Mark.
